Baldric posted on the Hussars forum saying he had seen the updates on Dropkick’s facebook page. Not unexpected but very sad nonetheless. He was a good laugh and a pleasure to game with.

Thanks Stalker.I do have your TS details but I think they need updating.
One of the advantages of TS over Discord is that you can connect to multiple server simultaneously – handy if you want to stay connected to your home clan but join in with others in a specific game.

I think it is one of the most intense and enjoyable BF games I have played. I am only now beginning to realise how little I know about how to play it (which probably explains my poor performance), but sadly I think only about two other Hussars have bothered getting it.

Hi all (who let me in?), so do I gather you no longer have a TS server?

Just so you know (*in case you haven’t been following the threads) because of the lag issues on Woodman we have set ourselves up on one of the US East Coast servers (Soltech) as Terran Republic and use that as our main server (although we still have the characters on Woodman).

Just so you know, a few of the Hussars are planning on giving this a go – and indeed are planning a session on Saturday 24th November as part of our tenth anniversary bash – so it may be amusing to try and co-ordinate things in-game between us, possibly even try to be in the same faction.

I was inspired by your video to try this for myself. I tried it with slugs on the DAO-12 (where I already had them) but decided it didn’t seem to have the power.
So then I spent some time unlocking the slugs on the M3A1 because I thought it did decent damage and had a good magazine, but found it to be ridiculously inaccurate.
With a holo sight I could aim at a point on a wall about 20′ away and even using ADS the shot would land low and to the left slightly of where I was aiming. In combat I couldn’t hit a damned thing.

So then I watched the video again and swapped to the 870. Worked through to get the slugs and found that it still wasn’t that accurate – the drop-off for the slugs is fairly big even at medium ranges (i.e. firing from one side of the Seine to the other).
I have now unlocked the 6x scope but I’m not sure it adds anything over the ACOG as the doc said.

I’m also wondering (apart from the comedy value) when it would be useful to arm myself with slugs and a shotty – possibly as an engineer on some of the larger maps but I suspect the SCAR-H would be as good.

Pb is more than “slightly” behind the curve Alzir, they are notorious at not responding quickly to reported hacks or hackers, which is why third-party groups (such as Punksbusted or PBBans) have been created to ban cheaters by word of mouth rather than waiting for PB to get around to dealing with the hack.

This is one of the biggest problems with DICE’s frostbite powered games – no spectator mode or (like CoD Black Ops) no theatre mode that you can use to see exactly what was going on.

Still, it could be worse. VAC’s policy of playing the waiting game is understandable from their point of view but a real killer for players unfortunate enough to meet someone using the hack.

I agree with a lot of what you said Maniac. The flashlights have been reduced in brightness but how that got past even the alpha is beyond me.
I believe that the weapon damage in the beta was higher – it certainly seemed to be more effective than the retail version.

I also agree that the “post mortem” managed to avoid asking any vaguely contentious questions or (less forgiveable) to challenge any of the self-congratulatory comments that Bach gave.

Don’t get me wrong, I think overall BF3 is a fantastic and highly impressive game but there were (and still are) a lot of fairly extraordinary issues with it as well.

Still, as Max pointed out before, compared to the release issues with BC2 (and even BF2), BF3 was a lot better.

What do you think of that article?

It is interesting seeing the reactions on battleface to that article, where the usual naysayers feel obliged to vent their spleen.

I think that you have to remember that when BF2 was being developed, they were only developing it for the PC. That was never going to happen with BF3 so we have (by necessity) an attempt to find a happy medium between the nirvanna that was full-scale BF2 and the immediate action that console players expect.

Generally they seem to have pulled it off and BF3 is a pretty incredible game and incredible experience, however it does have some flaws.
    I would list these as:
Disconnects – the single biggest problem most players experience is the random disconnects from EA online that plague the online game.
Maps – Some maps are clearly aimed at specific game modes or sizes and they aren’t always a happy fit elsewhere.
Weapon Unlocks – my personal bugbear (as stated elsewhere) is the fact that the only way to unlock weapon and vehicle attachments is to get kills with them.

Sounds like a good idea – although I think the flash suppressor still isn’t ideal as it doesn’t seem to do anything about you appearing on the mini-map and therefore being mortar fodder.

Still the concept is good – it brings back the idea that you could tailor your attachments to suit the way you play – close quarter spray and pray or longer range aimed shots.

Yes, it was a good blast, even on non-hardcore mode.

I agree with the first part of this but not the last part.
I actually found that I managed to complete the L96 assignment without doing anything particular for it – because it doesn’t force you to be recon when getting the headshots or knife takedowns.

The squad deathmatch requirement is just stupid and forces people to play a stupid game mode.
The game mode becomes even more stupid when you realise that even if you kill someone on an opposing squad, if they are revived the kill is removed again, thus encouraging teams of medic trains.

To be honest though, my biggest issue with the BF3 unlocks is the weapon/vehicle kill progression – that to unlock accessories for specific items you have to get kills with that item. Thus the people who do well are rewarded with items that will help them do better and the people who are struggling will struggle even more.

With the other progressions (kit-based progression and the level progression) you can gain unlocks by getting points for completing objectives, performing support actions (repairs, revives, resupplies, spots etc.), or for getting kills, which means that players who aren’t so handy in direct combat can still progress within the game.
