i’ve had the ticket stamped ( after months of telling her we REALLY need one and generally annoying the hell outta her) to get a spangly new telly.
so far i’ve looked at :
Sony KDL40V2000 looks nice and gives a nice crisp picture, but only has 1 HDMI port, i’d go for the new X-series thats coming out in september, but i really can’t justify the £2500+.
and
Toshiba 42WLT66, another very good telly, although a lot of people on the AV forums have been having problems with them. This beauty has x2 HDMI ports and a screen res of 1920×1080.
anyhow, are there any good independant review site of AV equiptment, as i reallyt can’t find any, apart from which!, but i can’t be arsed to subscribe to it, and are there any blatently outstanding 42″ LCD TV under £2k that i really need to know about?
July 5, 2006 at 7:44 am #28795XDCMADMAXParticipantsoundandvision.com mate, bought a lovely Pioneer 43″, 436XDE with 2 HDMI ports from there, take a look.

My Quintrix (7 years old and not really used that much) just died on me…
Well, unless I want to try and watch a picture that’s compressed into a 1/2cm horizontal line.
Still, not much worth watching on TV these days and those big TV’s are just toooo big. I like to watch the whole screen without having to move my head from side to side 😀
July 5, 2006 at 11:28 am #28798Beer_MonsterParticipantaye, thats where i’ve been getting the best prices anyhow, seems a good online shop.
i think i’m leaning towards the tosh, does the 1920×1080 res mean i get a much better picture? I was reading somewhere that if you get a 720 telly, sometimes the picture gets fucked up because it has to convert it?
anyways check it out.

July 5, 2006 at 4:05 pm #28802XDCMcQueenParticipantMy rear projection toshiba was getting abit long in the tooth so ive been out and bought this
http://www.samsung.com/uk/r7/index.htm
Comet etc are retailing it at 1599,i got it online from
The picture is mint i know you get what you pay for but i didnt have £2000+ to spend on a tv.
July 5, 2006 at 5:18 pm #28803Beer_MonsterParticipantwell i got off work early today and took a trip out to the sound and vision store in back of beyond Bolton.
i spent over an hour deciding which TV to buy, i gotta say, the salesman was a typical wanker, but what ya gonna do when they have decent prices?
anyhow, it got to a toss up between
http://www.soundandvisiononline.com/moreinfo/index.asp?product_id=10801
and
http://www.soundandvisiononline.com/moreinfo/index.asp?product_id=10714
but in the end i ended up with the panasonic plasma, i really did like the toshiba, and it looked stunning watching the HD tennis, but what put me off was the motion blurr and what i can only describe as a net curtain effect when looking at the picture up close.
anyhow, i tried to get the fucking huge bastard thing in the estate……not a fucking hope……it’s getting delivered early next week, when i have to work nights in a one horse village in wales for 4 nights. so i’ll not be enjoying it while Friday at the earliest, if i don’t die whilst falling asleep driving back to Sheffield friday morning….it really would be just my luck. 😥

panasonic plamas are the dogs nuts
i can still be caught drooling over ours now and then…. hd pron is the way ahead 🙂
July 14, 2006 at 2:47 pm #28808Beer_MonsterParticipantJust got in from doing my work stint to Wales, and back to the wife and kid and new brand new baby, the plasma. I set it up at 4am this morning, waking the missus trying to lift the beast onto my existing stand, who’d have thunk they weigh so much.
Anyhow, i can’t wait to test HD. I have telewest HD being installed next Thursday, but is there anyway i can test HD out now, i take it i can hook up the PC and play my downloaded stuff from the newsgroups? The telly does have a SD card reader on it and plays Mpeg4 files, but is Mpeg4 HD?
any other easier suggestions for getting HD to play on the set?
