A few times now my X-Fi card has gone mental, (normally when 2142 crashes) and just lets out a high-pitched tone like a rape alarm. Just for the record, I’m not trying to force sex on my PC (not since I got stuck and had to take my old case to A&E) but still this persists.

I play with headphones on and have to rip them off pretty bloody quick, less my eardrums burst.

Anyone else had any similar problems?

No mate, Ive got a XFI card with the onboard memory but not had any probs. with it.

You dont think your onboard audio on your mobo is conflicting?

I’ve disabled the onboard audio in the BIOS, but the feedback only seems to happen when 2142 crashes.

I wouldn’t mind so much, but the thing blasts out at maximum volume!

My X-fi goes mental sometimes in bf2142. Starts off repeating a sound then seems to locate every single sound in the game and play it randomly like some mad techno tune then I get the blue screen of death if i leave it running. Checked it out at creative and a few other peeps have that prob but noones doing anything about it at the mo. Perhaps I could suggest finding an older driver and try that. Go back more than 6 months tho as Ive had the problem that long

I’m not too bothered by the problem. At the moment it doesn’t happen very often, and normally only when the PC crashes. I can live with it for now, but I wasn’t sure if this was a ‘feature’ of the X-Fi cards.

Neon, what kind of XFi card do you have?

I’ve got the music version, and there are issues with it if you have the sound option set to Xfi or Extreme on the BF2142 options. If you’ve got it up to the top, turn it down to high setting, I think XFi gets greyed out.

gonna state the obvious here but in your Xfi mode selector, have you set it to games rather than entertainment or audio creation? i’ve had interesting sounds thrown at me when i’ve forgotten to switch it over to game mode.
