Bah I think mines fudged, get white dots all over the screen on POST, then blue lines about an inch long all over XP Screen, then Windows wont load, all I get is a screen that I can only describe as a TV with no Ariel plugged in
I assume its the GFX card but cant test as I dont have another to do so
Anyhoos whats a good GFX card these days? I’ve not played a game on it for some time, but on the off chance I do I’d like to be able to play full on all settings, mainly use my PC for music, dowloading and streaming blurays to my PS3
Oh and I dont want to have to pay a fortune either 🙂
Any suggestions?
October 24, 2010 at 8:38 am #77574XDCiNSANEParticipantWondering if it could be the CPU? Noticed yesterday when it happened it was about 111f, saved settings put fan on full and it worked for yesterday, powered back on today and its 75F.. noticed the mobo keeps moaning about bios and overclocking failure at times too…
What say you?
cheers
October 24, 2010 at 9:28 am #77575TurksMeisterParticipantI think I know the issue…Do you get white dots on the screen when researching “Art” too?
October 24, 2010 at 11:00 am #77576XDCiNSANEParticipantNo, happens on the BIOS screen you nipple, dont get as far as Art.. I solved the issue your refering too a while back with a screen wipe
October 24, 2010 at 1:45 pm #77577XDC wild egg tamerParticipanthow about removing the gfx card and seeing how it behaves when it’s just running on the built in gfx chipset ?
October 24, 2010 at 4:15 pm #77578XDCiNSANEParticipantNo on board GFX mate
October 24, 2010 at 10:03 pm #77579GoNz0Participantvideo ram is farked

October 25, 2010 at 4:34 pm #77581XDCErratic-SpaceParticipantHaha I love how keen everyone is now to suggest a good bakin’!
Ouch though that sounds like it’s heating up ready to fuel a small nuclear bomb. Is Manchester planning on invading The Peak District?!Not much help regards the actual prob though other than the alarm bells those temperature readings send out. Good luck with it. Hey get yourself BF2BC and join us on that mate.
October 25, 2010 at 7:04 pm #77582XDCiNSANEParticipantYou sure its the RAM? I thought mobo considering the bios always funking up 🙁
Whats a good Nvidia GFX card these days then??
October 25, 2010 at 8:38 pm #77583xdc the docParticipantI just bought the 470 – not arrived yet though 🙂
Word on the street is – excellent card – but runs hot and possibly noisy (depending on aftermarket cooling solution of your choice.)
ATI is where it is at I’m afraid – I would definitely only buy a radeon just now as NVIDIA are a bit behind the curve with the current generation cards.
I was forced to go NVIDIA for an obscure technical reason relating to CS5 and its playback engine.
October 26, 2010 at 5:36 pm #77584XDCiNSANEParticipantCheers fella, thinking of the 460 as its cheaper and from reading on if rumors are true then something something anoiut the chip etc nvidia f’ing them off etc
Most important thing is I believe it will suffice and run the games i’d want too, which at the mo is 0 .. but future proof = win 🙂
hactually thinking of this exact one

thoughts?
October 26, 2010 at 8:02 pm #77585xdc the docParticipantYeah is good card m8 – I would have got one if I didn’t have loads a money 😀
Would have got the equivalent priced ATI myself – but I’m sure you have your reasons.
October 26, 2010 at 8:47 pm #77586XDCiNSANEParticipantNo reason mate, I just dont know what the equiv ATI is.. lost track tbh
I used to bum ATI, then got nvidia, no real preference except to be able to play games in full thats all, not arsed re OC’ing and dont want to spend a small fortune
October 26, 2010 at 9:32 pm #77587XDCiNSANEParticipantHad a bit of a read, reckon I’ll get this one, bit of a diff in price but seems the better card than the ATI and has physX support which as the game it comes with has this, I’d be excited to see it in action 🙂

Many have advised the equiv ATI 5850 etc should out do the 470/480 but doesnt apparently
oo i dunno 🙂
