[Wipers] Yep that’s right, they can moan/bitch/complain and flout our laws as much as they want, but as soon as you question this you’re a racist or a bigot.
(By no means is this a flame… just a small opinion among many… Please dont take it the wrong way – the Turks of yester year was somewhat forceful with views – I’d like to think I am somewhat older and wiser now …)
I think there is a difference between fundamentalists and people of different cultures trying to influence society to meets their beliefs and values.
My personal belief is that fundamentalists of all religeons can be thoroughy irritating – they serverely fuck with my live and let live ethos!
Religeous man: Its Wednesday, lets make love to a donkey like it says in “the bible of donkey loving”… as it is Wednesday after all.
Unreligeous one legged black lesbian: But I thought it was tuesday…
Religeos man: No Im sure its Wednesday… otherwise I wouldnt be fucking this donkey up the rusty sherifs badge…
Unreligeous one legged black lesbian: But I dont believe in the “donkey loving” religeon
Religeous man pulls out, shoots Unreligeous one legged black lesbian in the head, and exits stage left
This may seem a rather extreme scenario… but it is based on a true story… or a dream!
The latter point – people of different cultures trying to influence Britains society… in my humble opinion, if you have the right to vote, then you have the right to suggest changes to society… as others have the right to disagree… Swings and roundabouts innit! You have to remember though, the British expats in Arab states where drinking is ilegal… who like to have a sly one every now and again.

Am in Putney at the moment but will be heading off soon but yeah…would be up for a meet anytime I’m around 😀
Perhaps a midweek, “not very hardcore” pubbage session could be the answer… will start a thread.

ever lived in an arabic state…. there’s more drunken arabs brewing their own moonshine than the ex pats thats for sure!!! and the ex pat home brew, though lethally intoxicating, does taste like its been ‘passed’ by a few of them first of all….
still better than nothing when you’ve a mouth like an arab’s flip flop though i grant you…
August 4, 2006 at 11:10 pm #31464TurksMeisterParticipantWhilst looking in to where booze is illegal (wasnt there a story about a group of guys who were arrested for bomb making, when actually they were just drnkers or something… may have dreampt that too!)… I came accross this!!

August 5, 2006 at 9:10 am #31465XDCOldPhartParticipantI have many many Americans, and the scary thing is most are like the peeps in the interview.
However, I believe there are intelligent Yanks, they just hide out somewhere far away from common observers.
Take our resident Gud Auld Boys, Queeks, Jar and Morph. They have brains, but do you ever see them on TV?
No. QED 😀

August 5, 2006 at 12:47 pm #31468LensmanParticipantI disagree with Pharty. I have spent a lot of time in the US both working and on holiday, and so come across an awful lot of yanks (as opposed to a lot of awful yanks 😉 ) – and I agree with the earlier sentiments that they are just like people everywhere. 90% are pretty much just like us – likeable, just wanting to get on with life, similar aspirations, like a joke and/or a beer. A few percent fail on a couple of those criteria, and an even smaller percent are complete and utter wankers. And they’re the ones that end up in politics and on TV spouting off. But how is that really much different from over here?
I reckon the same camera crew could walk down most streets in most major Western cities and encounter a similar thick-as-pigshit group that just don’t have a bloody clue about anything. In this country they are probably viewers of Big Brother….
It’s also true that most of the news is highly US oriented – foreign affairs get very little mention in comparison to say Australian or European broadcasts.
I would say the one big difference between the US as a whole and the rest of the Western world is that they are convinced everyone wants to be just like them. That their values (free market, democracy, culture, etc) are so great that every other culture must want to be the same. And if you don’t want that, then you must be anti-US. This manifests itself as an almost evangelical zeal to push “freedom” everywhere, not realising that something imposed is not actually freedom.
