(almost) 4 meg down and less than a half meg up, looks like the distance to your local exchange is a bit too far to utilise the enitre bw

Participantnah – he is on cable – distance does not matter
the NTL “10 meg” is wank – you can only get 10 meg when everyone else has gone to bed between 4pm and 10pm 4 meg is normal

ParticipantBasically like most contracts you have to read the small print. You’ll probably be on a 50-1 contention ratio which basically means you share your pipe connection with 50 other people. So the less people are on it the faster you go and the more people on it the slower you go ,bit like BF2142 really

ParticipantI’m almost sure you’re still on the 4 Mb line with that sprog. To check your cable modem speed, type in http://192.168.100.1/logs.html in your browser and there should be an entry somewhere that is similar to “SW Download INIT – Via Config file cm-10240-384”, 10240 being the download speed and 384 being the upload, if you are still on the 4Mb ,it’ll likely say “SW Download INIT – Via Config file cm-4080-384”.
Incidently, you’ll be glad to here that they are soon to be doubling download AND upload speeds soon.
Don’t listen to the cable bashers, I love my cable and get the full speed 24/7. 😀

ParticipantGotta say, for the year I was on Cable, never had a problem with it, think it cut out once for about 15 minutes, but I can put that down to acceptable maintenance disruption, got full speeds almost 24/7 as well. great stuff!

ParticipantCable is sexy
No doubt about it
Except we havent got sky 1 anymore 🙁
So have we all been upgraded then? as we are on blueyonder/telewest/ntl/virgin too… 4mb line

ParticipantNo news on the 2Mb/4Mb upgrades, just the 10Mb to 20Mb/386k to 728k upgrade has been announced so far.
