Had a bit of a querky idea whilst bored at work (I put paper clips on things!)… and came up with this for an idea… just wondering what you think.
A competition… between clans if you will… on who can make the most popular youtube video within a certain time period (popularity based on number of hits/links/whatever).
The winner gets a virtual prize/donates a fiver to the others server/does a naked dance… or something.
The reasons I thought this was a good idea are three fold…
1) As you know my mate is walking to Europe… a condition of the competition would be that his link would be displayed at the end – thus providing a pretty good advert, and hopefully a raise in donations (he gets there in just under 2 monts, and I really want him to raise the £10k… hes on just over £4k atm.
2) We are entering a new age – when the massed media/corporations are no longer in power – The internet has allowed people to sell themselves to the world without phat wallets – just look at the Arctic Monkeys… who found fame through My space. Obviously I am not trying to find fame here, but I will be able to measure the effects of the free, (hopefully) humerous/interesting advertising that the videos bring, through a trusty hit counter!
3) Because it will bring enjoyment, creativity, and other wonderful things to our lives, in a competitive type way!
So please vote away…
I wasnt thinking that…. literally just a video that you think will get the most hits… ie something amusing/interesting/whatever… you know the sort of stuff that gets emailed all over the place… Its an advertising revolution I tells ya – when people see stuff that they like, they spread it round on their own accord – fuck watching Lost, with 4 10 mins breaks in the middle!
Heres an example I have drempt up… I have on my phone, a postman pat video, that someone has dubbed over, andits pretty fucking funny… Perhaps our video could be something like that- we find a cartoon, write a funny script, get clan members to record different parts (Roll on the archers!)… some one else can edit the video and post it.
I will try and upload this pat thing, to give you a ruff idea – but literally the idea is to make a popular video that people will email to their mates when they see it, so it gets as many hits as possible…

reminds me of what I used to do as a kid with the Dukes of Hazzard and Rainbow. Wish I could find them old vids but Im sure they are crap as you see from the 1st pat link its just way too tempting to swear all over it like I used to do. Funny for a bit but not clever 😉 that second link is mutch better
What about we find a short bit of TV to dub and have the comp as just that. The same vid but different dubs like those pat ones?
I can handle editing sound and perhaps a voice or two if someone can come up with an idea for the program and a funny script.

The Pat vid is just some nobber swearing a lot, thinking it’s funny because it’s over a kid’s program.
How about something filmed in BF2? I’m thinking “Mine” but (a) not as long and (b) less Bf2 specific humour.
But I’m crap at script writing – I can do the improvised one liners, but I’m rubbish at making up stories.
reminds me of a film i saw years ago by Woody Allen, it was called “whats up tiger Lilly”; he got an exisiting Japanese film, rewrote the script and redubbed the whole film. It wasn’t one of the funniest films i’d seen but still a clever idea with some funny quips.

Another film that was very clever in how it was made is “Dead men don’t wear plaid”, this got a multitude of old clips and strung them together to make a complete film..again, not one of Steve Martins best films but a good idea none the less.
