I was prompted into checking out some details about BF3 by something Stalker mentioned to me the other week, and I came across a video by Gamerspawn detailing what’s been confirmed so far. It’s not really worth watching, so I’ve summarised it below, but it makes my post look nicer so the video’s there as well if you want to watch it.

It’s a true sequel to BF2, unlike the bad company games, and is set in the modern era.
It will use a frostbite engine.
There will be a console version, but the PC version is getting extra attention, with the developers highlighting it will not be a console port.
Interestingly, it will not support Windows XP, and on the BF3 site dx10 is listed as a minimum requirement.
There will be a beta released this year, before October 12th.January 18, 2011 at 10:53 am #78213XDC wild egg tamerParticipantyawn!!! more modern.
January 20, 2011 at 10:05 am #78214XDC wild egg tamerParticipantseems the PC version is being built first then the consoles getting the port over.
Let’s hope that if it really has to be modern again that they do a good job with it.
fingers crossed!
January 20, 2011 at 10:50 am #78215AlzirKeymasterOh they’ll defnitely manage to fuck up something 🙂 It’ll be modern, and will be laden with achievements, unlocks, and perk type stuff, just like Modern Warfare. It will feature unblanced classes, with overpowered weapons, and overpowered vehicles, in particular aircraft. It will however feature the best squad system in an online shooter, and some of the best team orientated game modes, which will be it’s saving grace. The graphics will be stunning, just like BC2, although it will probably require the same standard of hardware to run.
My main concern is in how they treat conquest mode, which seems to have been revamped for the worse in BC2 (maybe because of the watered down console influence?). If they are selling the game with mention of classic maps like Kharkland and hopefully Sharqui, they need to remember the basics, giving us more flags to fight over, and less linear maps. Choke points are fine, but you need more routes between objectives so you don’t have the entire team fighting over the same piece of ground all the time.

Boo at no XP support, I only have XP 🙁
February 5, 2011 at 1:10 pm #78218AlzirKeymastermeh that really is a teaser, promising a lot from the soundtrack then showing nothing.
Good to see you back on the forum Mike, I was getting worried about you.
February 6, 2011 at 12:03 pm #78219bmstalkerParticipantRead on a post somewhere the other day that they are going back to supporting 64 player servers, making it a battlefield rather than a small skirmish.
Oh, and prone is also making a comeback (on the pc ofc)
February 6, 2011 at 1:50 pm #78220AlzirKeymasterProne coming back will be good, but not really too fussed about the 64 player thing. 24-32 players was always the ideal number in bf2, in my opinion anyway.

microsoft doesnt even support XP any more.
back to the game, i am just hoping that they make a decent BF game again out of it. i loved BF2, even though i spent 4 months testing it i loved it.
i have made my feelings very clear to several members of the DICE staff that they had better not make a console game and port it to to PC. i want the commander as a class, i want the commander to squad leader and vice versa only communications, i want 64 player games , i want open battlefields, i want a proper squad system.i know that there will be problems and balancing issues, one class will be better than the rest and most people will play it, ….. but i want my battlefield back!!
whether you prefer 1942 to BF2 of 2142 it doesnt matter, the fact is that those games all featured things that we want and now expect from a battlefield game.
February 8, 2011 at 12:48 am #78223XDC wild egg tamerParticipanthave a word with them and see if a remake of 1942 is ever going to be on the cards or are we stuck with modern forever!!!
