Hi guys
Just thought I would give you guys a heads up regarding a new title from SOE called H1Z1.
Its a free to play zombie game MM0 🙂 using the same game engine as Planetside 2 and you can build shit.
Early access will be on Steam for £20, dunno if i,m gonna get it, coz its free to play, so cant work out why I should pay £20, but I may, as it could give me some good good shit once its released.

April 24, 2014 at 9:38 pm #86330Beer_MonsterParticipantHmmmm, i’m kinda all done out with the survival games for now…….the next thing i’m getting excited about is Elite:Dangerous. I just paid an EXTORTIONATE amount of money to get an early alpha release that only has 10 single player missions and waiting for the beta on May 30th…………what can I say, I’m LOVIN’ it.

Tell me you didn’t pay £200 for early access….
April 25, 2014 at 12:35 pm #86333AlzirKeymasterWow Beer, that had to be some investment, but glad to hear you’re lovin it 🙂 Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen are two games I’m really looking forward to in the next year or so.
April 25, 2014 at 2:15 pm #86334Beer_MonsterParticipantnaw £200 was for the early access beta, I couldn’t go that high…….spunked out £100 for the beta on 30th May ,future expansion packs and a few other bit’s and bob’s thrown it.
April 28, 2014 at 11:11 am #8633511thSignalParticipantyep, I was going to back it on kickstarter months and months ago which was a lot cheaper but I’m going to shell out for the prem beta myself.

April 29, 2014 at 3:48 pm #86337AlzirKeymasterRight Steve, here’s what I think of this game. It looks promising but I’m not allowing myself to get too excited about it, because this could just be another quickly developed pile of crap in an attempt to cash in on the DayZ phenomena. I’ve not had a chance to watch that video yet because I’m currently stuck with the crappy net connection here and it’s buffering like fuck, however I’ve seen a few others previously.
I’m glad it’s free to play because I’d not give it a second look otherwise, so when it’s released I’ll be right in there to see for myself how it feels. Having vehicles in it is a plus, and while being able to make your own base is interesting, it does make me a little nervous as I thought that would be good in rust, but then didn’t like they way it was implemented there. I also don’t like how in a previous video I watched, the devs focused a lot on fire, which is a bit meh. If they consider that some kind of selling point, what’s the rest of the game going to be like?

Yea it’s a real shame, and I’m starting to feel a bit worried by DayZ.
Saying that he missed the boat is certainly true with regards to the game, but on the other hand he has been able to cash in on the mod’s success personally. I don’t know what position he held in the company, but in single handedly transforming a mediocre bug ridden game into a steam top seller, he was propelled to a project lead position, which I think he’s failed badly at. OK building a MMO architecture around a fps game is likely to be pretty hard, but at the very least he underestimated the task at hand by giving us what proved to be an unrealistic timeframe for release, which served only to increase the hype. It could be that the company forced this on him, in an attempt to cash in again before others moved into the same space, but to end up almost a year overdue, with only a bare bones alpha to show for it, is close to unforgivable. During that year we saw Rocket globetrotting promoting the game, as well as fucking off on an extremely expensive trip to climb Everest in the middle of the game’s development. Also in that time a member of the dev team was imprisoned in Greece for something, and this was used as an excuse for the delays experienced! Get someone else in ffs!
My worry now is that having cashed in personally, and having become a name in the gaming industry, he will now be walking off for a lucrative contract somewhere else or to start his own studio. He’s already said that he’ll be leaving his current role at the end of this year. For the rest of us what does that then leave? The game has already been released, and if it is to continue with centralised dedicated server support, it must be an expensive proposition to maintain for whoever controls the purse strings (I think that’ll be bohemmia). They don’t have any kind of subscription model and they’ve allowed 2 million sales of the game at an apparently low price (although very high for what we’ve got), so where will they receive the funds to support development of the game after this year? We might start to see DLC of some kind, but that’ll be extremely difficult to implement without becoming pay to win.
I’m starting to wonder whether this game will be the first popular “get everyone to buy an alpha to support development” game, which then fails to deliver on the developer’s promise.

Latest H1Z1 trailor, from E3 today.
June 10, 2014 at 7:42 pm #86341bmstalkerParticipantEeek, not sure I like the look of that. I guess it’s alpha etc but it reeks of WarZ
June 11, 2014 at 12:35 am #86342AlzirKeymasterI can see where you’re coming from with that but I’m not sure tbh having watched this as well:

It doesn’t strike me as being like WarZ, but it doesn’t look enough like DayZ either. I’m really quite put off though by base building in these types of game, having witnessed it on Rust, and in some random DayZ mods. Bases make things a little too comfortable.
