September 23, 2006 at 5:50 pm #34297nOmParticipantpentium is the way to go at the moment 😉
September 23, 2006 at 6:04 pm #34298RecoilUKParticipantHi guys
Basically, I have two options…
1. upgrade my AMD Athlon 64 3500+ to a X2 4800+ 939 and add 2gb DDR memory to the 2gb I allready have, so i,ll have a dual core with 4gb memory.
2. buy a 6600 or 6400 Intel Core 2 Duo, with new motherboard and 2gb DD2 memory.
This will be with my 6800 Ultra.
I know the new Intel chips overclock really well.
Help me decide.

AMD FTW!

September 25, 2006 at 12:43 pm #34304xdc magickerParticipantcore 2 duo is the daddy at the moment and looks set to dominate things in the next 6 months at least till amd get their act together again
intel have come back big time
September 25, 2006 at 3:15 pm #34305XDCsPUNKerParticipantlike has been said intel are doing the x2 cores at the moment and the price isnt that shocking but what AMD would normally do if they aint leading the market at that moment is drop the price of their proccessors quite considerably So its tough to say. I’m an AMD fan and have an Athlon64 x2 4400 Toledo which has 1meg cache on each processor and runs like the proverbial poop off a shovel.
If you are going for 939 amd I would suggest an asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard but obviously depending on your G card and as you are doing graphics intesive stuff at the moment consider going sli with invidia and look at getting a whopping 2gig out of two GeForce 7950 GX2 cards making it quad sli as a lot of these mBs are starting to support it. By the way. If you are running XP 32 bit it will only register up to 3 gig of ram anyway so at the moment (untill vista shapes up) I have 1 gig sitting in my machine doing nothing 😉September 26, 2006 at 8:39 am #34306xdc magickerParticipanthttp://www.eclipsecomputers.com/systemview.aspx?id=96
if you can get intel core 2s at this sort of price you would be bonkers to go for anything else
September 26, 2006 at 2:44 pm #34307RecoilUKParticipantHi guys
Havnt decided on the route to take, but i,m also considering buying a copy of Windows XP x64, now I know what your thinking, it isnt exactly the best option for drivers, but, and this is a big but, I can get it for £87.88 from Scan, and the only reason I am considering it, is the fact I have a spare partition on my harddrive and aslo because I have just been to the Windows Vista siteand it would seem users of this version will be getting a free upgrade, so may be able to save some money in the longrun, as I think it will be more expensive when its finally released.

September 26, 2006 at 5:09 pm #34308AnonymousParticipantI never knew about XP x64 users getting a free upgrade to Vista but if that’s all a blag I’d say avoid x64 liek the plague – even though It’s worked for a lot of thigns with me, there are a buttload of things that don’t work; Nero and WLAN being asome of the bigger gripes =/
