I am selling my PSP 1000 (Max’s old PSP!) on gumtree with four games, case and 2Gb memory card. Asking price – a rather high £60 – but just wanted to test the market. Below is an email chain with a lady called Jenny – it looks a bit fishy to me, what do you guys think?
Her
Hello,

Jenny
Me:
Hi Jenny,
I would prefer to deal in person rather than sending. It would take over an hour of my time to wrap and send via post office. I would consider it at £80 + postage costs, otherwise will go with a local pickup. Cheers
ChrisHer:
ok that’s fine, kindly get back to me with your paypal money request of 100pounds for the payment.Hope to read from you
My question: If I insist that the money is paid by bank transfer, is there any way she can get the funds back once it has hit my account?
My other question: Can I get shafted via the postal process? ie in extra fees?Confused.com What do you think?
May 15, 2012 at 7:45 pm #82499bmstalkerParticipantI’m always wary of people asking things to be posted overseas. I’m sure something will come up at some point during the transaction that requires you to do something else but I guess with paypal you are protected. Just make sure you withdraw the funds from paypal into your bank account and it’s cleared before sending it.
But it still sounds fishy.

Amazing
I have requested the £100 on paypal out of interest!

May 16, 2012 at 5:18 pm #82502bmstalkerParticipantOh fuck yeah, that’s a scam mate, tell her to go fuck herself, nothing good will come of this, I promise you. Had it been France of something, but I’d be careful mate. I’d skip any hassle and tell her to do one.
I had the same thing when I sold an iPhone on gumtree, so many people e-mailed me from Nigeria it was unreal. They are scamming bastards but in their country, it’s not considered wrong to be scamming “rich” Europeans so you can’t really blame them.
I’d just steer well clear.
May 16, 2012 at 8:43 pm #82503TurksMeisterParticipantWas a textbook scam… I can see how people fall for it, but the follow up PayPal email was just a bit too shit!
May 17, 2012 at 9:09 pm #82504xdc the docParticipantPaypal buit is easy to scam… if they do a direct bank transfer though… I don’t think there is any physical way for them to get their money back?
May 17, 2012 at 10:35 pm #82505XDC wild egg tamerParticipantgo for it turks, i’m all for Nigerians making money out of scamming………means i can charge the scamming gits £100+ to take them out to Lewisham; Thornton Heath etc and they’re always happy to pay it!! 😉
May 19, 2012 at 8:16 am #82506XDC_WolfParticipantyou bastard, it’s cabbies like you that charge me loads to get to Streatham……
May 19, 2012 at 9:04 am #82507XDC wild egg tamerParticipantyou’re lucky we don’t charge double to go to Londons shitholes wolfie 😉
I would ask if you’re in the nice part of Streatham, but i’m not sure where exactly that could be!
May 19, 2012 at 2:32 pm #82508XDC_WolfParticipantmore streatham common/crystal palace way, if you know crown point, around there. Moving in August to civilisation of sheperds bush area
May 19, 2012 at 5:24 pm #82509XDC wild egg tamerParticipanti know crown point, have cousins live near there. If you’re coming over to the “West side” then i strongly suggest we finally sort out a drink up and get turks and pharty along – though they do live in the more salubrious parts of West London i’m sure they could bring themselves to lower their standards for one night and have a drink with the commoners 😉
May 20, 2012 at 12:35 am #82510XDC_WolfParticipantTurks is well and truly under the thumb, and worse, she doesn’t know he games! but yeah, we’ll see if we can get pharty out of his ivory towers!
May 24, 2012 at 10:12 pm #82511TurksMeisterParticipantI now live in Acton Town – far less awesome than Chiswick, but the flat is epic! We will be neighbours Mr Wolf!
May 26, 2012 at 10:21 am #82512XDC_WolfParticipantbloody hell Turks, lookinj at East Acton area/sheperds bush, How’s Acton?
