DICE is currently working on a Battlefield 3 patch that will improve a number of things, fix some issues, and so on — whatever a patch is supposed to do. But the upcoming patch will also tweak some gameplay elements like weapons and vehicles, chief of which are the jets. If you’ve tried to fly a jet in Battlefield 3, you’d know that the entry bar is very steep: you are only given access to a machine gun, which is incredibly hard to rake up any points with in order to get any useful weapon unlocks, like air to air missiles or even flares.
But according to DICE’s Frederik Thylander (via Twitter), jets are getting “buffed up” in an upcoming Battlefield 3 patch. Thylander responded to complaints from users that jets are underpowered, which they in many ways are in their current form. It’s still unknown what kind of upgrades jets might receive, but at the very least, we hope that flares are available as standard.

Seen a ton of players moaning about how easy it is to use the shoulder mounted stinger to shoot planes down. Well from personal experience it quite hard, if the pilot actually pays attention to what they’re doing. I’ve seen missiles be out run and out turned until flares deployed again and even seen missiles head to a different target to the one you locked.
Flying was always a skill in BF (hence I can’t pilot a plane for toffee 🙂 ). I can see this ending up like some 90’s Sega arcade game.

I haven’t been very bothered by planes so far so I can’t tell if they are underpowered or not but I don’t want them to be like bf2 where they were a total pain in the arse to soldiers. Make them better against armour maybe but not to soldiers.

November 1, 2011 at 12:53 pm #79953XDCSprogParticipantthey should make them invincible….and lock on target max as standard wherever he is on the map……but only once i have configured my joystick !!
November 1, 2011 at 1:16 pm #79954XDC_WolfParticipantI’m just beginning to enjoy them, watched that video Matt put up, it was really useful
November 1, 2011 at 6:05 pm #79955XDCiNSANEParticipantThey should patch it so you can hactually assign your joystick to em! gits
November 2, 2011 at 7:24 am #79956airmessyParticipantThey are fine as they are. I can disable tanks and all sorts of shit now, enjoying them as people dont know how to fly properly yet and i am out turning everyone 😀 Blowing up helis is nice fun to.
Helis probably need a buffing, 14 rockets and the gunner hammering a tank should kill not just disable it.
Did not like the planes and helis so much in bf3, without the box that used to pop up on enemy tanks, planes, helis it kinda sucked. Early lvls your flying blind. Then you open up the radar its suddenly a whole lot more fun.
Hand held stingers are a POS tho, they should be highlighted on your hud once they have lockNovember 3, 2011 at 8:37 pm #79957XDCsPUNKerParticipantI just want my friggin joystick to work int his game then I’ll just be a pain in your arses 😉
Lest see them fix that dibacleNovember 3, 2011 at 10:10 pm #79958XDCSprogParticipantWhat’s happenin with the joysticks……I aint set mine up yet ?
November 3, 2011 at 11:25 pm #79959XDCiNSANEParticipantYou cant unbind some of the keys, they have issues, I remember it happening in BF2.. I think you can edit a cfg file, but I cant find it as yet 🙁
November 4, 2011 at 2:05 am #79960XDCSprogParticipanti’ll wait for the patch 😉
November 4, 2011 at 10:19 am #79961XDCsPUNKerParticipantthe coding on the joysticks is based on the gamepad for the xbox. which is pretty dumb IMO but then again I guess it was all part of wanking off the console players to keep them apeased as they are the ones who theoreticaly “buy” the games. Well i wont go into it as it’s all very lalala. Anyway just found this so maybe it will work. I’ll try it when i get back from work: http://www.overclock.net/pc-games/1151826-i-fixed-bf3-joystick-issues-heres.html and tell you if it helped
November 4, 2011 at 10:29 am #79962AlzirKeymasterCan you remove the keybinds ok? How are you doing it, because highlighting and “esc” doesn’t work for me at all?

ffs EA, I just found out how to do it out of pure frustration….you have to hold escape for a few seconds! It works a lot better if you grit your teeth and snarl a bit at the same time…feels better anyway.
