Right… Parents are having a big joint 60th (which none of you are invited to!)… They have asked me to make a website for it, so this will be the start of a very long process… (The party is in October!).
First off… I need a domain name and webspace… anyone got any suggestions/reccomendations?
January 14, 2008 at 6:30 pm #64326TurksMeisterParticipantOoooo just to add some more info – I think they are inviting 200 or so people… so presume about that many will be checking the site… I need to display information about guest houses around the area, so presume it will get quite a bit of repeat views… I know fuck all about bandwidth etc… but have heard you can get shafted if you use more than your allocation… so need to take that in to account…

other wise if you want a bit of hand holding bung me 15 quid and i will setup you up with some space and domain name.

Will give the site a look – any idea on which package I should go for, with the above useage in mind?
cheers
January 14, 2008 at 11:37 pm #64329XDC_WolfParticipanterm Ithink 1and1 were the people that the rats just cancelled their forums with, I know it’s not going to be that hardcore, but just check with them to make sure mate
January 15, 2008 at 8:01 am #64330XDCiNSANEParticipantPfft… just typed a tutorial which took me best part of 3 hours.. realised I wasnt invited and thought.. Well F You then and deleted.

i wasn’t offering to set your website up – just offering some cheap webspace and a domain name for you
you just need the cheapest package from 1and1 or i will host your site for 10 quid cheaper
January 15, 2008 at 4:42 pm #64332XDC_WolfParticipantPlus he’d be your bitch for the duration of the contract!
January 23, 2008 at 7:47 am #64333LensmanParticipantYou could always give Dataflame a go. I guess they are like 1and1, and provide a hosting service. But you also get a load of freebies that are easy to install and give a wide variety of choices for website authoring – everything from vanilla HTML through full content management system. There’s no significant bandwidth limits.
I’ve used them for a few years, and (famous last words) they’ve been pretty good.

Oooo can you build the website for that tenner!?
February 5, 2008 at 2:46 pm #64335TurksMeisterParticipantSoooo… I am making this website, and Im stuck at the first hurdle:
How come the text is so far apart?! How can I make it closer together? Fuck front page is stressful!
February 5, 2008 at 6:00 pm #64336ZuluParticipanthttp://www.123-reg.co.uk is ideal for you.
register a cheap domain and they give you a 10 page website that you can make using easy templates.
Even have a message page like a mini forum for questions etc.
hope this helps
February 5, 2008 at 7:28 pm #64337XDC wild egg tamerParticipantIf you’re using frontpage, get used to editing HTML, you will end up stripping out about 1/2 of it……
Now i mention HTML, have a go at messing around with the tags within the HTML editor of frontpage (i assume it has one), you should soon find a way of tidying up the text exactly how you want it……i would offer to help but its been years since i messed around with it.
February 5, 2008 at 10:23 pm #64338TurksMeisterParticipantWill give it a go…
Think I need more freedom than that Mr Zulu – and a hell of a lot more pages! I have made sites before, just pinched free templates off the net, and fiddled with them – never made my own one from scratch before… Its a steep learning curve 🙂
