Chaps, I want to get the numbers who would be interested in an RO server. If interested, please respond below, also let me know what you can afford etc. My feeling is that if I can generate enough money we can have 2 servers, but I will see what the potential income is first. This server could potentially become a server for OFP2 or Armed Assault etc in the future. Basically, a server for us who prefer our games less arcade like and more brains/tactics orientated.

I’m happy to increase my sub to £10 a month to cover another server.
Pharty do you have a rough idea of how much 2 servers + the web server is going to cost a month? About £130 / £140 a month? The more people who contribute the more we can bring the cost per person down.
Web Site = 20.00 pcm
BF Server = 50.00 pcm
RO Server = 66.00 pcmTotal = 136.00 pcm
If 10 people pay we need 13.60 per month each
If 20 people pay, we need 6.30 per month each
If 25 people pay we need 5.44 per month each
If 30 people pay we need 4.53 per month each.
So far 20 people have responded saying they will pay, some have said 10 pcm, some 5 or 6, those that have not been specific I have estimated as 6 per month. If all these 20 people pay, we shal have £135.75 pcm, which covers all the servers and websites.
Once money has started flowing in, I will have a more accurate picture of the real inflows, as talk is cheap, and from what Spugs has said, he covvered a fair bit of the server each month.
That said, it looks doable. I will arrange a 3 month trial RO server as well. If after 3 months I see the dosh is not stretching to what we need (I will pop in up to 30 squid monthley) we shall have a review.
I will set up a poll, if around 10 peeps respond saying we should try it, I will set up a monthly RO server over the weekend.

dunno if i’ve stopped me dd to spugsy….will continue to contribute whats needed if enough ppl want a RO server and forum, but if not enough ppl want one i feel i should contribute to the server i play RO on, i have continued with my small payment to the server fund for many months although i dont play on it, and to be honest i’d rather offer support to where i play, will still contribute to forums etc…

What about a hall of fame for people outside of XDC who contribute – might be a good way to tempt people in to donating, and a great way to say cheers.

To be honest, I think it would be rather cheeky to expect non-members to contribute, or to accept contributions from non-members. Considering the flat denials of entry to people like the Black Watch crowd, it would be a bit dishonourable to then go and accept their money.
However, I am happy to take a debate on it.

Agreed. Apart from Legit who seems to have assume squatters rights on our server at the mo.
No I don’t think we should have to depend on outsiders. Has anyone actually offered to contribute anyway?
ok, i’ve recieved your DD details and shall set up a tenner a month donation until we iron out exact figured as to how many people want to contribute and how much each person shall give.
p.s i’ve now set up a standing order donation £10 each month starting on the 31/10/06, becuase thats the earliest it would let me do it…..some bollocks about 3 working days.
