    Ok Guys,

Your thoughts on RPG on infantry? Particularly on rush maps with no vehicles.

My opinion? poor form all round. This is not sour grapes after last nights rush debacle, I’d just like to hear other opinions.

I’ve been debating with myself over this since beta and i’m of the opinion it can’t be controlled unless class limits become a possibility for particular maps however, consider the conns of imposing our own rule on their use. First we’ll be forever banning people and will never get to play the game, but then think of the grey areas. Some in a building behind a wall abd I fire rpg to destroy wall, and luck out with the kill as well, acceptable? It would need to be be ause that is generally how they’re used. Someone appears in front of me and I either get my keys mixed up or I only have rpg equipped…do o hesitate to consider whether it’s cricket or not? Someone’s running across the field of battle and an rpg explodes near them, and we kick…what do we say to the defence, “what do you think would happen in real life”.

Personally I think ea will rebalance rpgs and the smaw or whatever, somehow, but even that will be hard given the number of uses. The engy class is slightly overpowered atm though, so it may be required given their esports agenda. I don’t think we can do anything about it though and really it’s part of the game we’ll have to get used to. Also use it yourself and don’t feel like it’s some sort of deadly sin.

Im abit undecided on this, its abit lame to be fair and makes me think the player has no skill. The mortar unlock really fecks me off tho.

I get your point. Once or twice is a lucky mistake. But when you get a player persistently using the RPG on a rush map for example, then thats bad fuckin’ form.

If the opposing player is “holed” up in a building on a flag and your fighting towards it, then an RPG into the building is a valid tactic, but in an open environment like the first part of Metro is just shit.

Quite a few of the BFBC servers had a warning about using RPG’s on infantry if I remember.

I appologised when i shot you point blank ben, twas swapping weps and u popped up and i panicked. Generally i use em as a room cleaner, after all its just a well aimed grenade at the end of the day. Good for clearing rooms or making a tactical advantage for infantry hiding in windows or behind cover.

Other than that i use it for armour. Its not as bad as the law issue in vietnam.

A server message to not take this piss would be good though

I would say that it’s fine, if they miss they are pretty much going to be killed and given that they can be used to destry buildings it would be well nigh impossible to rule over.if necessary have a quite word in the game about overusing it but don’t threaten to kick, it will piss people off if they’ve used it by mistake ( I know I have).

There is also the fact that there are occasions where rpgs on infantry can be the deciding factor, like in the alleyways at grand bazaar, the enemy can get entrenched and a good old noob tube or rpg can clear the feckers out, valid tactic I would say. Think back to your school days and any sport you chose to play, I’m sure that the rules have changed since then in ways you may not like, but the younger people are growing up with these rules and are adapting. I for on would struggle with the releasing of the ball/tackler on the ground in rugby for example, or the one false start in running leading to disqualification. The fact is that on 42 and bf2 there was no destructive scenery so hitting an rpg into a wall repeatedly would be all splash damage, now ou have to take into account if the wall will absorb the blast or not.

this sort of thing is stuational, if someone is consistently using the rpg then maybe something should be said. but there are times when i have shot the rpg at a soldier, as they appear as im trying to kill a tank or they have run behind a wall/building etc.

overall i dont have much of an issue wtih it, its nowhere near as bas as it was in BC2 where they were very powerful. they seem to have a vastly reduced splash damage in BF3.

Nah, I wasn’t referring to you mate. There was a guy on last night who thought the RPG made a good sniper rifle in the park section of “Metro”.

Exactly, it’s situational, and as admins we need to use common sense to see when another player is taking the piss and effectively ruining the game for others. On the Caspian Border map there is a Flag at the check point where a squad can entrench themselves in the buildings, in that situation, an RPG in the window is a valid tactic.

Having said all that, RPG’s seem to be Borat’s weapon of choice!

The main map where its a pita is Metro Conquest which is a crap map anyway.

To be honest a lot of the bigger maps you can find yourself running around with an rpg as there’s so many vehicles to take down. No way would you stop and change weapon to shoot infantry that runs out of cover. In the smaller maps so many people take to the rooms to shoot down on people so again an rpg is a valid tactic. Oh and snipers deserve RPG’s…. no reason they just do (looking at you Magicker). There are also times when people get entrenched in a corner where the easiest way to dig them out is a well placed RPG.

It can be farcical but you will end up spending most your game as admin trying to sort it out.

As already mentioned I think you will find Mortars a much bigger problem when more and more people unlock them.

I know Ben, just saying incase you missed my appology on TS 🙂

Mortars are cool if you spot 3 enemy tanks, I’m all for em, more so when you find the bugger and slit his throat.. ok that doesnt work like if you got an infantry from behind, so a few ok a lot of swipes and a fuck it i’ll shoot him instead is satisfying 😛

I brought this point up in BFBC2, it really pissed me off when people essentially roamed the map with the RPG/CG out, ready to fire on the first infantry they’ve seen. This discussion is going the same way. It’s a pain in the ass, none of us would play that way, but it’s too hard to adminstrate and make set rules about.

It’s gonna come down to if one person is taking the piss, have a word. If they continue to do it and ignore the wishes of the server owners, I say fuck ’em and just kick them.

I say if it’s in the game then it’s in the game. If I’m support then I will shoot people without feeling bad.

As for having a word with people who take the piss – How do you define ‘taking the piss?’

Though I don’t get to play our server too often as for some reason my laptop struggles the more on it than any other server I play.
