thought I’d actually take a crack at this and see what all the fuss is about. There were so many begets at the start I thought sod it.
Will try again sometime but You will never be able to convince me to become a christian or any other hocus pocus for that matter
you read the Koran just out of interest Paddy? As I’m eventually planning on reading all the main religious texts at some point in my life.
Just so I can say “that’s bollocks” with confidence 😉

Not read the Koran yet, thats next on my list, I am going to a moque (semi radical) in Birmingham to have a chat with an Imam (he knows I am not interested in Islam in a conversion kind of way but is willing to chat to me so I can learn some of the differences/similarities and exactly what the Islamic view is). Also plan on reading the God Delusion, can’t bring myself to buy it and give money to Richard Dawkins (Who I don’t like, the same way I don’t like any evangelical/fundamentalist). so I am going to borrow it when my mate has finished with it.

Personally I enjoy challenging my beleifs, it is the only way to fully understand what you actually beleive, but I guess when it comes down to it I rely on faith over science for my own personal beleif, but that is what they are, personal.

P.S. Spunks, you should read The New Testament translation by Nick King S.J. It is much asier to read and the translation is subtely different in the emphasis of certain words which have been misused in the name of Christianity by wankers over the years. If you can’t get it I will post you my copy on the condition I get it back!

Meh. The bible’s alright, but I thought it was a bit too preachy.

The bible is indeed an interesting book provided you dont think of it as the word of god or a guide to your life (cos that would be bonkers – ie when to kill babies and when not to / when and where it is ok to stone people / etc)

some interesting podcasts looking at the bible as it should be read (ie an ancient book in the context of the societies that created it) can be found here

in Particular listen to The Bible Geek – this guy is fantastic – very entertaining and astoundingly well informed PADDY YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO THIS GUY YOU WILL LOVE IT – he is a christian atheist! give it a go –

here are a few highlights if anyone want to dip their toe in the water of critical bible studies

The End of Biblical Studies – Hector Avalos – tis guy taught himself ancient hebrew at school and went on to Harvard and is very knowledgeable and a good communicator.

The Bible Geek – Episode #7 dr robert price aka the bible geek – great talker

ok this one is not bible related but still a good listen..
The Accidental Mind – Dr David Linden – i have been meaning to read his book for a while now – fascinating guy looking at the mind from a evolutionary neurologists view point

    Ahhh, the bible.

Kind of like a mixed up adventure story cum soap opera with lots of dudes fucking their daughters, then killing their sons, and surfing in the Red Sea.

I like the one when that Sampson fellow goes and smites the waves with his stick, then leads all the Egyptians to freedom in Canaan after fleeing the wrath of this bad honcho called Moses who was 400 years old, fucked his daughters too and sent plagues on the Israelites.

Speaking of Israelites, they have some cool stories too, normally with fucking aswel, like some fellow who offered his daughter up to be raped by some other dudes, to stop thos dudes from shagging some other blokes up the arse.

Its a sordid book, by all accounts, it puts The 120 Days of Sodom (Maquis de Sade) into the shade. And in terms of science fiction it beats Arthur C Clarke anyday, its full of test-tube babies, blokes comming back to life after getting stuck into the regeneration-caves and blokes that can fly flaming chariots, dudes with wierd wings (nice bit of fantasy there too).

If you are into halucinogenic experiences, you can read all about this other dudes amazing fucking trip in the chapter called Revelations. Man alive, he took some seriously baaaaaaaaaaaaddd acid. That will teach him to trust Hittite dealers.

They also talk about Global Warming in the bible, coz they are always on about how the holy land was “The land of milk and honey” but we all know what a fucked up piece of dry desert it is now.

See kids, global warming is true. When Captain Ahab took his family into the Promised Land, it was all cool and fertile. Now its desert… global warming.
