That’s horrendous! Mine wasn’t even that bad last year prior to their network upgrade in the area when I couldn’t even play tf2. How the fuck do you play so well in bf3!
For comparison though:
I’m 250 miles further from a server and performing much better with same ISP. Having said that I’ve run that test at ten thirty and my problems are worst between 7 and 10 usually. I also suspect EA’s server code contributes to my rubber banding as well….but still virgin are shit in some areas, or at least they’re happy with average too often, which is useless for gaming.

I know pretty much everyone on virgin have to wait weeks sometimes a month or so for them to change the transfer blocker they have, to not blacklist new games when they come out. Every fucking patch with wow we had 2-3 people unable to raid on there connections. They were virgin.
Because they actively try to stop p2p stuff pretty much everything that is not on there list that is sending and receiving data gets auto slowed until they unbar it.November 24, 2011 at 12:45 am #80955xdc the docParticipant@airmessy wrote:

November 24, 2011 at 8:50 am #80957crazy hippoParticipanti kow some people have great connections with Virgin, i did for 3 years. absolutely perfect, great speeds, no packet loss, super low pings. but since last october it has been atrocious, i have had engineers out on 6 occasions, we have had 1 upgrade installed in the local exchange and god knows how many calls to their call cnetre to report crap connection.
i wish it was like it was before as i never had any complaints but i have had enough over the past year. makes the whole online gaming experience a lot less enjoyable as a result.

That is a nightmare – I think I would of left as well!
TBH, the only reason I left BT was that they could not give me a better speed then 4mb lol! BT Affinity was not in my area and unlikely to be, for the next two years and seeing as I was paying over £20 a month for 4mb, thought time for a change – now pay £22 for 30mb but will see if I suffer any connectivity or packet loss issues. The superhub is crap though and I will be changing this not before long
November 24, 2011 at 5:09 pm #80959XDCSprogParticipanti was dropping from 8mb back up too 29mb……back down too 5 the other night

November 25, 2011 at 1:40 pm #80962airmessyParticipantI remember pod telling me a while ago that cable is shit for that reason. As normally most of the street shares the same cable, when alot of people are on during peak hours the line gets slower and slower because there are more people using it. Imagine a pie, if your eating it on your own you get your fill. When all the neighbours and there children come knocking and want some pie you end up with only a tiny slither so everyone else can eat to.
This cant still be the case nowadays surly?November 25, 2011 at 4:55 pm #80963XDC wild egg tamerParticipanti thought the same applied to regular ADSL by means of contention ratios?
November 25, 2011 at 6:21 pm #80964AlzirKeymasterI’m in the unusual position atm at being able to compare ISP’s from the same computer, and while a ping test with virgin (cable) is coming out with an A score atm and actually with an excellent ping of 26ms, there is jitter on the connection compared with nothing on the new connection (ADSL).
I wonder if it’s this Jitter that perhaps the BF3 net code has issues with, leading to rubber banding, and I’ll put it to the test over the next few days.
