it was lately but going back pre-MTV etc it was a great proggie that kept you up to date with all the stuff in the charts…good and bad……..Joe Dolcie anyone ?
Who can forget the hairy one, Dave Lee Travis, the pimped up one Jimmy Saville and the likes of Bruno Brookes, John Peel…….ahhhh, happy days! 😀
Don’t forget Gary Davies, he was pure DJ through and through!
However, I must say good riddance to Top of the Pops, the last 10 years it has become absolute rubbish. When I was a kid, the whole family used to watch it as we’d all like at least one or two of the songs (and dad could watch Legs and Co), but I pretty much hate everything that’s on there now.
Bimbo from Cee Beebies: “Hi and welcome to Top of the Pops!”
Metrosexual Pretty Boy: (laughs) “Yeah! We’ve got some great acts on the show tonight; Atomic Kitten, Will Young, Girls Aloud, One of the Spice Girls, a boy band and one half decent act that we’ll only play for 30 seconds!”
Bimbo from Cee Beebies: “But kicking off the show with a bang it’s an Australian soap actress turned singer! Yeah! Wooo!”
Basically they should put TOTP’s on children’s TV ‘cos they’re the only people who buy the music they show on there. It’s like listening to Radio 1, without the intellect, and that’s saying something.
In summary: Me, a man almost in his mid thirties knows more about youth culture than those liberal lefties at the BBC. How about some marching band music, or some sea shanties to sing along too? Come on BBC, get your act together!
