ParticipantSo I’m not gonna be around for a while. I’m having a nervous breakdown! lol!!! 😕
Yesterday my PC completely crashed, and wouldn’t boot up, so I had to ring Dell, and now I’ve had to delete my entire RAID volume hard drive!! 298 gb of deletion!! So, now I’ve got to wait for Dell to send me disks of my operating system, before I can try to reboot. I’ve no idea what I just said, but it sounds about right. So, I’m on my Dad’s work PC at the mo, just to let everybody know what’s going on, and why it seems a bit dull on BF2 at the mo lol!!
Hopefully I should get this sorted soon, or die trying….. Pray for me lol!!! 😛

ParticipantI thought the whole idea of RAID was if you had a failure then you didn’t lose anything?
Looks like you’ve been done, m8 🙂

ParticipantUnless he has RAID 0

ParticipantFFS, dont restore over those drives.
Can you find out which level of RAID you had?
What kind of drives are they, SCSI, SATA or IDE?
Did they say it was a drive failure or a RAID controller problem?
There’s a reasonable chance you can get your data off them.
Even if you cant get any information I’d still take one of the drives out and stick it in a mates machine and see if there was anything there.
Cowboy.

ParticipantIf you’re running RAID 0 (which is more than likely if it came from Dell as a desktop PC) then you are screwed if one of the drives goes. Like Max says there is no fault redundancy in RAID 0 only an increase in performance.

ParticipantHe still shouldn’t restore over the disk, if it is just boot failure chances are most of his data is intact.
Slap it in someone elses machine as a second drive and see what can be rescued

Yep, it’s RAID 0. What it is, is the Hard Drive is split into 2 190gb sections. I had a crash, and the PC wouldn’t boot up, so I pressed Control-I to get into the RAID option screen, and deleted one of the volumes, then tried to create a new RAID volume, but it said there wasn’t enough space to do this, so I had to delete the other half of the Hard Drive too, then create a whole new RAID volume.
As you guys might know, I’m not too technically minded, so I don’t really know what I am talking about, it’s just based on what the Dell guy instructed me through today 😛
Luckily, it’s not a work PC or anything, so I had no data of real importance on there, just porn and lots of hardware software. I was bored of the pron, and the software can all be reloaded, just gonna take some feckin’ time! 😕
And, if when the new OS cds arrive, it still doesn’t work, the PC’s under warranty, so Dell guy said he’d send me a new Hard Drive. Hopefully it won’t come to that…..

ParticipantAnd I just found out that both Hard Drives need to be replaced, so Dell are gonna take it away, and fit 2 new drives for me. I’m off on Holiday, too, so will be at least 3 weeks before I get to play BF2 again! I’ll have forgotten how, and be all crap again! 😥
