ParticipantHad enough of Pipex, even after 1 call to their ‘tech/CS dept’ that want you to run a ton of tests or ‘why not upgrade to adsl Max’ yeah so I can get the same crapy line speeds and be tied to your for a year.
As far as I’m aware nothing has changed at my end to warrant pathetic speeds in the evening and I’m not prepared to go through the rigmarole of unistalling/re-installing modem, changing filters and running dozens of tests on the BT test domain.
I’m not alone in this as a Pipex user hence the reason why I don’t want to do the above.
So….
Any one recomend a good isp, preferably with free migration and no set up cost?
I currently pay £24.99 for a (supposed) 2meg line, never upgraded to Max in order to avoide being tied into a years contract.

ParticipantWe pay just over £60/month, and get 4mb broard band, sky sprots and movies, and phone free on weekends… with telewest… not sure how much internet is out of that, but am very happy with them.

ParticipantI know it’s not the popular or cheapest option but I’ve been with a few ISP over the years and I’ve gotta say AOl is still my favorite ISP, no limits very good ping times and never had any connection problems at all in 3 years. I know it’s not the cheapest but as I’ve never had any probs with them ever I’ve got to recommend it.

ParticipantYou should check out http://www.uswitch.com
They’ll only tell you which ones are the cheapest, but they will give you a list of all the ones available in your area, along with some reviews written by people who use the service.

ParticipantZen is pricey, but have won the PC-Pro ISP of the year a couple of times. I am going to switch to them soon.
Otherwise Nildram have a good reputation and decent customer service

ParticipantI use a local outfit called Griffin Internet. Pretty pricey – £28 for 1Mb line. “Ripoff!!” “Sucker!!” I hear you cry.
Well, perhaps, but I stick with them for a few reasons:
-
Very low contention ratio (max 5-1), so I get 1Mb ALL the time.
No limits at all
No sliding windows of availability – many ISP’s cap speeds at peak periods. Fucks up evening gaming big time….
I work from home, and reliability is an absolute must-have. As well as their tech support being good & free, if necessary I can drive to their office a few miles away and smack heads.
No contractual tie-in. I can shift at just one months notice if I need to.
Can’t get more than 2Mb on my telephone line anyway. So for me I’m paying for reliability and good responsive support. I had two years of shit with Tiscali and hunted around a lot before choosing Griffin.

ParticipantI’m with Pipex and they are utterly shite ! The answer to everything is “why don’t you upgrade to adslmax”
why don’t you fuck off and sort something out for the poor long standing customers you bunch of thick twats
cocks
I’m with ya Ronny, Let me know who you choose. That adslguide that Insane posted is a good place to start
