In my quest to improve, i thought it would be interesting to find out what soldier you play as and why.
For me it depends on what map im playing and what unlock i,ve recently gained. I,ve just got the Centry gun, so am seeing how good they are.
I normally play as an engineer on the vehicle (motion mines still catch people out! 😈 ), or as a sniper/assalt on other maps.
But saying that, i do tend to change who i am during a game to fit whats happening around me, and then change back when i get killed(which last night was quite often!)

When assaulting a Titan, or in street type maps, I go assualt.
I have started to go up the sniper unlock path but only because I hardly ever play sniper and so am trying to make it more interesting. As a sniper I hate just lying around waiting to shoot people – my instinct is to rush in. Just sitting on a hill hoping someone comes into range is just boring for me as a game. Maybe when I get the sniper close quarters gun I can change that.
I spawn occasionally as supply guy, but mainly to help my squad out if on Titan attack/defense and nobody else is running around with ammo.
I guess the time split is:
70% – Engineer
20% – Assault
5% – Sniper
5% – SupplyFebruary 14, 2007 at 12:57 pm #45566XDCNeonSamuraiParticipantI normally play the soldier who starts off full of bravado as the battle begins, but is soon reduced to frustrated tears and tries to defect to the winning side.
According to the stats page I primarily play mechanic (AV), but I suppose that’s because most maps have vehicles and nobody else chooses the role. T’other day I was the only engineer on Cerebre Landing and wasted 3 walkers and 3 FAV’s with mines and me Pilum, probably because they didn’t expect it.
I’ll change depending on the map, and if I’m attacking, defending or commanderising. I tend to play Support a lot when I can and use the sentry gun. My tip would be to put the gun down an alley where the enemy will stumble into it. It’s not so good at long range, but a long enough burst at close range should bring someone down.

I’ve got a mate that’s got ’em all on DVD and every now and again we have a few beers and stick It Ain’t Half Hot Mum and Mind Your Language on and relive those magical days before the pc crowd came along.
Anywy, on the subject of pretending to be a soldier and pretending to shoot a pretend gun at people pretending to be soldiers, is there any interest here about Armed Assault or did everyone rip it off and then stop playing it 6 months ago?

TITAN [inside]
Support (defence)
recon (with short range gun) or support (attack) {in fact in reality you should go with whatever anyone else isnt as a truly successful Titan attack normally involves 1 support 1 recon and most importantly 1 medic}TITAN [commander]
engineer (at beginning to keep the guns fixed) or any kit to set booby traps for when the visiting party arrivesASSAULT [commander] anything you like but best is recon in a safe place with a couple of claymores on either side of you in case someone sneaks up)
As for the rest, its purely down to what feels comfortable at the time.
Sometimes the best thing to do is look at the rest of your squad (if the buggers are working together) and go with a class that suits the needs of the teamFebruary 14, 2007 at 4:04 pm #45572XDC wild egg tamerParticipantsniper/spec-ops for me……………find it a great class to give some cover and intel over distance while a squad goes in to cap a flag, its also very handy on the titans when trying to defend as the claymores/rdx combo can supress an attack in the corrdors with somone else giving me covering fire…
February 14, 2007 at 4:12 pm #45573XDCNeonSamuraiParticipantI’ve got a weekend over at a mate’s playing OFP and AA whilst ‘the wives’ talk about babies, shopping and cookery. Although I’ll be getting AA, from what everybody has been saying I’ll need the kind of PC that only a former Zimbabwean could afford.
