ParticipantRight guys – any1 got the low down on whether home premium is good enough or if we really need to think about professional? Not sure how essential this xp mode is – anyone heard?
And where have peeps seen the cheapest prices so far?

Participanthome premium should be all you need .. if you dont need to join a domain then you wont need professional
there is a basic list here
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/compare-editions” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
it is the remote desktop i am wondering about .. i think i will need professional for that…
i am dissapointed with the pricing for what is essentially an update to vista which I paid an arm and a leg for.

Participantseeming as Im still running XP I think I would rather have that XP thingy as with music software some of its quite old now and Im sure it would have compatability issues.I think that XP thingy was one of the main selling points for an otherwise sooped up version of vista with less(?) bugs

Participanti have been using 7 for about 4 months now on my main rig and have yet to find anything that required the xp mode
remember all it is is a virtual xp machine that is more tightly integrated than most VM offerings. if you really need to run something AS xp then just install virtual PC or one of the other free alternatives.

ParticipantI recently bought a new Dell desktop pc with windows 7. Now I already have a wireless connection throughout the house through a router, this works for my 2 laptops running vista, and a vista desktop with a USB wireless router. Since it worked on that pc, I bought another wireless USB router for this pc, but it will not work. Help please.

ParticipantI had a similar problem with my wireless, ended up buying some home plugs (networking through the old mains supply in you r house. Very simple, plug in one end to you rtouter and a spare plug outlet, the other cable into your network card and a plug socket, enter some info and away you go, also works for Xboxs.

ParticipantI like how Win 7 deals with OS restores. Made mine straightforward, moved all the important files to a backup. No probs and everything worked as it should after the process was finished.

ParticipantI’m loving Windows 7 and i managed to get myself a legit copy of W7 Pro for £40 bucks…
If you have a .ac.uk email address or know anyone with a .ac.uk email address you can too…
Just search Microsoft Student Deals, you can also get office for £30 bucks or summit…
