ParticipantI haven’t played tanks properly in about 6 months although the game is great. It’s very addictive and I found myself wanting to play it every night to take advantage of the bonuses etc. Gary and RecoilUK still play pretty regularly though. Great game that I still watch on youtube.

I doubt it’s much like the original, although it still has the grand scale, class structure, and things like lattice, but it’s free to play. You do bump into a few people who played the original and declare that to have been the best game of all time, and swear about how SOE have dumbed down their game for the BF and COD kiddies, but you see that in tons of games and some people can’t get past the fact they were once easily awed.
I am totally addicted to PS2 though and it may well be close to taking the title of my favourite game of all time, but it can be a really tough nut for other people to crack and get into. It has different spawn mechanics compared to BF, it’s buggy as fuck, and you can get totally overwhelmed by numbers, or just farmed by wankers sitting in tanks or aircraft all day, but play with us and you’ll be able to deal with that most of the time. The best thing about it is the teamplay, especially when you have an XDC squad working together. It just surpasses anything we’ve ever done before.
We have our frustrations, but that’s because we try difficult things in game, and that’s what makes the successes so satisfying. Last night for example, 3 of us were holding a base against approximately 90 enemies, for a few minutes before others on the server responded to my call out on leader chat that there was a “BKNE farm” to attend (BKNE being an outfit famous for their ability to throw 96+ people at empty bases), and during that fight the enemy had got into a really nasty position which made it very difficult for us to get out towards the flag which for that base is normally easiest to defend. Their position was the one spot where it could be locked down from, but myself, Chris (zigzag), and steve (recoil) dropped down from a flanking route and the 3 of us cleared out the squad of 10-12 enemies in that spot by ourselves. It was poetry in motion, and when you appreciate the significance of what you’re doing (i.e. in that case our guys were then able to break out and we successfully defended the outpost), it makes moments like that unforgettable, even for an experienced player, and that’s the hook which keeps me playing.
tl:dr Matt really likes game
