ParticipantWell after spending 2 hours lastnight putting on 64bit Vista ultimate and then using it for a little while is …..it’s ok, nothing special. I mean it’s XP with knobs on, very very anti-climatic. Well I can only think myself a complete wanker because after working in the trade for 12 years I shouldn’t really have expected anything different.
Unfortunately in the performance score my processor scored the lowest which was 5, I was expecting it to do better considering it’s a Core 2 Duo E6300(yes I know it’s the low end one).My Ram scored the highest which was 6 everthing else scored around the 5.4-5.9 range

ParticipantGot to admit I’m surprised at how many of those who should know better are rushing to install this on their main PCs on the day of release. It took a good year for XP to mature with the main bugs ironed out and for manufacturers to catch up with decent drivers.
Whatever you think of the MS developers they are obviously paying their PR department plenty.

ParticipantI had a phone call from my brother yesterday asking if Vista could be installed over XP or if it was a start-from-scratch job. I asked him why he was considering upgrading a perfectly working system, and he said because his daughters thought the new cascading windows (or whatever) looked really cool and they just had to have it.
What’s a techie nerd to do in the face of fashion…. 🙄

Have to agree Wipers mate! Let things bed in a little before installing on ya main machine
shit, XP with service pack 1 was still a little flakey.
At least with all the people rushing to install it we’ll have plenty of reference to potential issues when we finally decide to install.

Participantwell i have managed to get a cracked version running on virtul pc 2007 and all seems to be well – i think i might put it on my main machine to see how it goes – if it all falls appart then i get to play at putting it right

ParticipantDoesnt it cost a fucking fortune too?
Surely you could get an XP plug in that would do all that shit for you?

ParticipantIn reality I dont think its going to make a huge difference untill software developers start using the directx10 engine more in games and the like then it will probably outshine. But by then Vista will have matured quite a bit also 😉
Patience FTW
btw Lensman get something like the windowblinds suite and tart up XP they wont notice the difference 😉February 1, 2007 at 6:56 pm #44712XDCiNSANE

Participanthmmmm, let me see……people who what to be able to play movies and don’t want business networking and remote access?
ahhh, i see, if i was a bloke then i’d go for the testostrone injected ultimate version for nearly double the price?
Surely only ladyboys and gheys would waste money on things they don’t really need
