Insane makes the best practical point on the A3 – have a two door car and a sprog is a real pain – literally.

Put it this way…..if your wife puts her back out manouvering baby Phart into the back seat of a 2 door car you will:
    a) Get the blame
    b) Not get any more sex
    c) Put your own back out while demonstrating to the missus how easy it is do really.

And BMW’s (3 series) are a bit “white sock” these days too.

Thought about a Lexus IS? I’ve been well pleased with the two I’ve had, although lack of 4WD may be a prob for your Alpine rally’s I guess?

Must admit I’ve always fancied a shuttle but worried if it was a gaming PC it might overheat due to being so small inside?

I use a Shuttle as my gaming PC and have been pretty pleased with it. I’ve got an ST61G4 :

They don’t make it anymore and there are more powerful models now.

Heat is not the problem. You need to be aware of the maximum physical size of a graphics card – space is quite tight. It’s more a matter of thickness of the card than length & height. If your heatsink is too high then it won’t fit without the aid of a hacksaw – some people do that, btw!

The other things is PSU rating. I’ve got a 250W supply (I think). This limits the cards I can get. Getting more than that requires an upgrade. Since its a custom sized unit to fit in the small box, it’s a £70+ job.

However, it would be worth checking the new models of Shuttle – they likely come with more powerful PSU’s and better slot positioning for the cards. One thing Shuttle do very well is keep up to date compatibility charts of what graphics cards will fit & can be used in the boxes. It’s all on their website.

But I’ve been well pleased with it in the two years or so since I built the thing. I’ll certainly consider a Shuttle when I next upgrade.

Fair enough on the 4WD- for those trips I would chose it too.

So you think you’ll still be going to the Alps when the rugrats arrive? 🙂

Me & the missus used to holiday most years in New England, and swore we would still do so with a little Lensy in tow. But somehow we just haven’t made it since he came along…..

If you need it to be comfy for long trips, then go for the A4 or Passat. The A3 is nice enough, but you’ll appreciate a saloon for those longer more relaxing drives.

All should be OK for golf clubs – you can fit in a couple of bags in the boot of my Lexus, and it’s got a slightly smaller boot that both the A4 & Passat.

4WD seems a bit poncy though. I would prefer to spend the cash it costs for that on better trim & gadgets that actually make the car more useful and comfortable day to day. Unless you live on a farm, that is.

    Slight aside….

Over Christmas I was called in to “just take a look at…” friends PC’s.

Incident #1: All docs, favourites etc gone completely. Worked out that IE7 installer had either crashed or been interrupted (did you realised it renames your user folder to “Temp” while installing?). Weird.

Incident #2: Message about spyware, click here to buy an antispyware product…..Soon determined no virus scanner installed FFS!!! AVG found 78 of them. Spybot etc found soo much spyware, including the one asking for money…

    Incident#3: Wifi problems (sigh….)

    Incident #4: Can’t remember…..they all turn into a blur…..

Sometimes its really annoying being the “techie-friend” 😀
