ParticipantXDC leaving a big streak across the map. Damn we’re good.
Also, if you don’t get the significance of what you see in these videos, normally when you attack an objective in planetside, conventional wisdom says you need to outnumber the enemy as they have a close, indestructable respawn and we don’t. It’s far easier to defend a flag than attack. What’s happening in these videos if it’s not clear, is that we are going in as a 3 or 4 man squad and holding the flag against 15 to 20 people which is pretty tricky and requires close teamwork. These are very tense periods of fighting and we are successful more often than not.

ParticipantAaaaaaand from medic point of view. The level 6 medic tool is awesome, really need res grenade though, should unlock it tomorrow.

ParticipantI have really enjoyed the last few weeks of planetside. We have been working better and better as a team and the thing that made it even more awesome last night was having people doing each class. Of course I’d rather have Alex going medic so I can hoover up kills as heavy but I did do pretty well as medic on my 2nd real attempt and rich was brilliant as engineer too. Garys sniping and general sneakyness is top notch as always and the complimenting heavies give a lot of firepower and are well supported.
This time is an even better time fer newer players to start because of that support network already in place and most of ye more experienced players can lead the squad now. If we can recruit more xdc, we will literally be one of the most feared outfits on the server.

ParticipantWe spoke about this previously, mostly in regards to another big XDC night, but we would be more successful in a few smaller squads. The core of us that play are all getting pretty adept at spotting the kind of fight we like to play and with 2-3 squads, on a continent, we could almost ensure we never lost a lattice to anything but a big push. And even with that big push, if we pooled our 2-3 squads, we’d have at least 10-15 people actually trying to push out of spawn, hopefully encouraging the rest.
It could work and I’d be happy to lead a squad when I’m on, I tend to do it anyway when Matt and Alex aren’t about and it’s not bad finding decent fights. Don’t mind indoctrinating new people, so long as they understand how we operate and follow direction. No point in having a split squad across a continent that i see all the time in randoms. I guess it comes down to a well written recruitment piece.

ParticipantYeah, that is some damn good sniping gary. I always hated playing against you in BF 🙂

ParticipantYeah, it was a blast last night, especially that enclosed fight, can’t remember the base, where they had around 30-40 people in the one building and we just kept popping in, taking a few out and then getting out to reload.
Also, anti vehicle mine unlocks made my night.
Really glad I persevered with planetside and got past my initial distaste for it. I still don’t totally understand all the capping rules, icons, high level tactics, but I know enough to find a good fight and be a pain in the ass to the opposing factions.

ParticipantNice, I initially picked up some station cash to buy that £1.99 starter pack with the infil SMG in it. I also just realised that although I bought that 7 day boost, I didn’t activate it, so it’s not started yet. Could have had 1200 certs on Sunday if I’d activated it 🙁

ParticipantOh and there is a “VR place” I think, where you can test out all the gear in the game as well as small trial periods for each weapon you can use it in fights for free.

It was pretty enjoyable.
The main issue I have with planetside is that you cant just try out different builds on the fly to suit your situation or mood because of the cert cost of the weapons.
My ideal build?
Infiltrator with a rifle capable of 1 hit hill headshots at range
Decent sidearm for close quarters.
Thats a 1250 cert investment as far as I can tell. Just for something that is basically a starting point in battlefield.I can’t believe I’m finding myself in a position of defending PS2 already but I’m going to anyway.
If you were to take the £50 you spent on BF3/4 whatever and invested it in station cash, you could have that build and much more from day 1. Your setup would likely cost £7 or £8 if you wanted it.
I recently invested some real cash in the game. I got a 1 month “membership” for £9. It gives me +25% xp and 500 station cash. I used the station cash for a 1 week “heroic boost” that gives me an extra 50% xp on top of that. I then played a 5 hour session on Sunday and netted over 800 certs in 1 day.
I guess it’s a free to play game and it’s no worse than world of tanks.

ParticipantI have to say, as someone who was never keen on PS2, for a long, long time, I’ve really taken to it in the last few weeks. Every time previously I’ve tried to like it, the gameflow and HUD has been far too confusing, I’ve never understood the base layouts and I’ve struggled to perform to anywhere near by BF standards of play. I especially remember the night that we got an 8 man XDC squad and that turned out to be a total bust as we just couldn’t find a fight worth fighting.
In the last week, I’ve really started to like the game. Im coming out of sessions with a KDR of around 2-3, which by Matt’s standards is poor but by my standards is pretty good. I also really feel like I’ve had a real impact on the factions territory control and this is as a 2 or 3 man squad.
The last fight last night was properly heroic. With you me and Gary on the ground, we killed at least 30 (think I got a 13 streak before there were too many targets to shoot at) NC before we went down to an actual zerg. They had to deploy around 5 times our numbers at least to dislodge us and the push we made alerted our faction who sent the cavelry once we had got a foothold. A few of the earlier fights would also have been lost if it hadn’t been for us pushing out a spawn camp to distract the enemy and allow the rest of our cowardly team to push out.
Yeah, really starting to like the game after being possibly one of it’s greatest critics. (unless this is alex reading this, then I actually still hate the game).
Hope we can drum up enough support for another XDC night as I think we can find better fights next time.
