KeymasterSo, who’s got this then? I’ve only really had a chance on Sunday to sit down for a proper session, and it lasted 5-8 hours, so I must be enjoying it 🙂 There’s something missing from the game compared to Civ 4 though, and I’m not entirely convinced by the AI so far, which is the first time I’ve ever said that about Civ (although I’ve not ventured beyond Prince difficulty yet), but overall I think this is a good game. The changes they’ve made to the economic system are good, and an improvement over previous versions, and the changes to the Military side of the game are brilliant, with this being by far the most strategic version of Civ to date.
I’m itching to try it on multiplayer soon, as I’ve a feeling it’ll be quite absorbing, so if anyone wants to join me (coop or aggressive) give me a shout.

KeymasterAdd me as a friend if you haven’t got me on your list already, and I’ll see you get an invite to the various groups etc.
Probably best adding me by email address – oliver_closeov@hotmail.com

KeymasterI’m assuming you have all the necessary hardware Pharty, and that wasn’t a question including what you’d need to run BC2?
If you simply want to join in with those of us playing it, then you’re probably best starting off with Teamspeak (see here viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5448), and I’d suggest getting and using Steam as much as possible for the times TS is empty. Steam’s come on a lot in recent years, and even if you don’t use it to buy games, it’s great for keeping track of friends online.
XDC has changed a bit since you were last around as we still don’t have that one game everyone plays all the time, but via Steam friends you’ll normally see someone in a game, and you can message them to find out where they’re playing etc. Those of us who still use TS and keep in touch regularly have a few games we stick to, including BC2 and TF2 mostly, but also Left for dead 2, company of heroes (free online version out soon btw), and a few other minor/flavour of the month offerings, as well as MMORGs like Eve and WOW.
There’s also a good lot of cross over in the games we play and those the rats are playing, so it’s handy to have their TS details and be a member of their steam group as well as ours.

Keymasterlol how can that work?

KeymasterNo worries mate, just don’t be a stranger around here 🙂
Oh and we still have to get you into TF2, now that my pc’s fixed.

KeymasterTS back up for anyone wondering what was going on. I had a change of debit card in the last 3 months, and payment bounced.
Alzir
KeymasterI don’t think it is.

KeymasterYep after reading this thread I reinstalled my copy of Civ 4, after playing for a couple of hours I remembered after watching my x10 assault infranty and x 2 artillery get wacked by 3 group of knights, some longbowman and a couple of hairy dudes carrying clubs how shit this game could be. Also in the space of 2 turns I had invented 4 religions. I love the series but there’s too many little annoyances to make me want to stick with it.
😯 That fight sequence you describe was a problem in Civ 1 (early 1990’s), but so rarely does it happen now that I’m wondering what settings you’re using, plus what are assault infantry? And 4 religions in 2 turns is pretty impressive going, I can’t even begin to figure out how you managed that one, unless you lined up 3 or 4 great prophets or something.

KeymasterVery well done Tooth, that’s some achievement!

KeymasterJust preordered this on Steam. It’s out on Friday 🙂

Keymasterwb Daz, good to see you about again 🙂
We’ve been slacking a bit lately online but you’ll normally find someone between XDC and the Rats TS, or at the very least on Steam. I can’t play BC2 yet, but most likely we could find something, so if you’re free give us a shout.

KeymasterI’ve actually managed to get into Empire, despite it’s problems, although it’s nowhere near as good as earlier versions, it does provide a bit more of a challenge at times. I’m having a great game as Brits atm, who I’ve never played before, but decided must be too easy to play, so chose to attack all my allies early on to spices things up and see what would happen. Also helps that I’ve figured out how to cope with that stupid clamour for reform, and I’m completely ignoring naval battles.
Anyway I suppose Napolean came out too soon after Empire, and given the bugs in Empire due to it’s speedy release, it’s probably safe to say Napolean wasn’t properly tested either.

KeymasterHey Hippy, good to see you again 🙂
You’ll still find a handful of us about between TS and/or steam if you have that. Quite a few of us have BC2, so you should be able to find a game, although I’m not able to play it yet 🙁

Keymaster😆 brilliant
Also loved the quote:
I got Patrick Moore and Brian May’s autographs from book signings and they never wrote anything rude
“Patrick Moore, observing while you sleep”

KeymasterHow much were the Xbox and PS3 on release? I seem to remember them costing over 300, possibly 350? You can get a PC for that, and I did. I’ll accept that generally they’re more expensive, but you can do PCs on the cheap as well.
