KeymasterJust read about this on the CommunityFT blog (http://communityfortress.com/tf2/blog/new-to-competitive-read-me.php) but there’s a new site up for PUGs where you don’t need to use IRC and is apparently good for new players like us.
It caters for EU players as well as US I believe, but I’ve not tried it.

KeymasterBack to the topic, I made my pickup debut last night, in a thrilling 3-2 defeat on badlands with me playing drunken Medic 🙂 I definitely fucked up a few times, dying with uber charged a staggering 3 times in a row 😆 but improved as it went on and my pep talk and directions over vent earned me a few compliments after game which was nice 🙂 Anyway, it you enjoy the teamplay aspect of the game, definitely have a look into Pickups, and they’re not as scarey as I first thought they might be 🙂
Give me a shout if you need a hand getting into them.

KeymasterAre you trolling Tooth, or were you just on another planet? XDC was very active from BF1942 through to the early days of BF2142, and we had a server in almost constant use between about 2002 and 2007? If you mean competitively active, like a proper clan, that’s different, as it tends to be when I take a notion that we get involved in that side of things. Regardless, we’ve already got an active core of players, who will want to be playing this game on our own terms, which is the point in having a server, and recruiting like minded people. That’s all there is to it really.

KeymasterWe do live in a multicultural liberal society Fluff, so I guess the arse bandits should be accepted as much as anyone else is 😉 The poll’s pretty conclusive though, so there will be plenty of us with the game on the PC from day one, but even if we had a massive majority getting the game on console, the only cause for concern would be who’s going to organise stuff for that lot. XDC will be getting a server for this game on the PC, will be open for recruitment again, and I intend on getting a competitive team together early on, as well as involving us in the games community. The only thing that will get in the way of that happening, is if the game turns out to be shit, but I doubt that’ll be the case. What the console guys get involved in is up to them, but if they want to get together under the XDC banner and build something, like the Ringers have, they’re more than welcome to, it just takes someone to organise it.

Keymasterbut once u get to grips with how people play you really do see the advantage of having extra people who’ve got the improved BAPs.
I’ve always seen the advantage of improved baps.

Keymaster😆 is there any ending that pleases you? I still can’t believe you criticised the games actual ending.
I’m going to have to reinstall portal now to try all these new maps. I went through a wee stage of trying all the bonus levels etc in the vanilla game, but I made the mistake one day of watching a youtube video showing how they’re really done. It scared me how good some people are at it, and I decided I couldn’t be arsed practicing up to their level and somehow this resulted in me giving up on the whole game :?, so I didn’t get around to trying the custom stuff. I’ll try a few of these maps though on your recommendation.

KeymasterBrilliant, it worked out that my character being a star, who has probably been to a another dimension, and can probably manipulate time, is infact me….and I look a tad hairy in the photo.

KeymasterAhh sorry to hear Mess, we’ve had that recently in our family as well, but it must be tough to happen around Christmas 🙁
To get back to a cheerier subject though, belated happy birthday to you (old bastard 😛 )
That will change I think when you see this …

What do you think, look good?
That looks interesting Steve, but there’s so much that they would need to get right to make that work on that scale, so I don’t think I’ll be rushing out to get a PS3 based on their ambition. Large scale games like that tend to become too realistic for me, in that you spend most of the game crawling about on your belly just to avoid being hit within the first few seconds after spawning. There also tends to be less room for individual skill due to the hugh amounts of spam you have to fight through. Keeping everyone interested in the objectives will also be a challenge, as it is even on small scale games. WW2 online does something similiar though, and it tends to work, but I’m not sure whether they all play on the one server, and it’s organised a lot differently. It will be interesting to see what becomes of this though.

Keymasterheh when I first read this thread I genuinely was just running through all the accents in my head which could have resulted in you spelling regardless that way…I wasn’t trying to be Paddy, I was just slightly drunk at the time 🙂
Back on topic, the razor deathadder was a very worthwhile investment I made a couple of years ago, which surprised me, as I didn’t understand the benefits of having a fancy mouse. I’ve never trusted wirless technology enough to go for a wireless mouse though, but whether there’s any logic in that I don’t know.

KeymasterSorry about my audio problems last night, I was experimenting with a few scripts/tweaks, and it appears one of them (which is supposed to mute my game when I activate push to talk) has a slight flaw in that it resets my game volume to full everytime I use it, and it somehow overrides any in game configuration and enables my TS ptt button for in game chat. It was otherwise working quite nicely, but I think I’ll turn it off so you don’t get that mad echo going on again. Good games last night though, that was a half decent server we were on, with some reasonable teamwork from both sides, and it was good to pick up a friends invite from our team’s medic after the fight 🙂

KeymasterTrying to think what kind of accent produces “regaurless” as a written word. You really should join us on TS.

Keymasterwell she seems to work in the more important wife type areas so I guess you don’t need to worry too much.
As for Portal….told you 🙂

KeymasterIf it’s still your 1942 PC, it might struggle with BF2 mods (infact even mine struggles with FH2, though that’s more likely a technical problem with the mod). Red Orchestra might work for you, as it’s pretty basic graphically, but even that might be too much for a 1942 machine. The original FH would work, but I doubt many people still play it, though the Rats and Hussars might.
WW2 titles have been lacking the last few years, with developers cashing in with more modern warfare type themes, though as Andy says there is WAW. Bad Company 2 is the first proper BF title since BF2 and looks good, featuring some tidy graphics and destructable terrain, but we don’t know an awful lot about it just yet, except that gameplay looks similar to COD MW2.
