I’ve had a few games now on hardcore servers where this is on, and I’ve experienced nothing but frustration with it. My experience hasn’t been less RPG spam, or less mortar activity, though you’d think that’d be the case. In effect the rockets and mortars are actually more powerful, and even if you pick up the occasional TK, the hardcore damage settings mean you die if a rocket even looks at you. I also obviously try and avoid TK’s when playing with FF on, but even with normal weapons they’re just unavoidable, and they’re so frequent that I’ve actually given up typing “sry” now.

It’d be interesting to see what FF would be like on a normal damage server, but the problem with that at the moment is that by turning FF on, we drop onto the custom server list and it becomes very difficult to populate the server. I’m keeping a close eye on the Rackage forums regarding this in the hope EA adjust how servers are listed, but atm it appears to be that any middle ground between normal and full hard core = empty server.

With regards to increasing our player count, I haven’t got any pricing information yet, but Gonzo says to leave it a week until they have their new hardware in. I’ll then go through it with him.

Because of paypal charges, I’d prefer people use the bank account in the OP, but if you do use this, please also let me know so I can keep track.

Can;t you send it as a “gift” in paypal thus rendering the charges null and void?

Dunno, but give it a try 🙂

I had to google rockmelt as I’d never heard of it, but from the first result on a search including battlelog problems I found this: http://www.tacticalgamer.com/battlefield-3/180636-battlelog-may-show-up-differently-differnt-web-browsers.html

So I can tell you Rockmelt browser does not like being launched from origin. I get like 20 errors pop every time when I do that. It however will run battlelog fine after you clear out the 20 error messages. But I usually run chrome because it is less resources.

You could try logging in directly to battlelog via: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/ and clear the error messages as he suggests.

We discovered tonight we’re able to change to the 64 player version of some maps, so pending any upgrade in our server numbers, which maps would you like to see set to the 64 version? Some of them I think would be too big, like Kharg island for example, which would spread the action out too much, but it worked well tonight for Grand Baazar and should be good on others as well. Incidently I think Noshahar is already set to the 64 version.

Just a quick update, I’ve set up a bank account so people can easily set up standing orders, or use internet banking to send through donations. So far 9 people have given a pledge to help support the server, which would work out as £13.55 each total for 6 months. That’s for the current cost of the server, but there’s been a request to increase our capacity to 40-48 players and I’m investigating how much this will increase our costs. It’s worth noting that the rackage price has increased since their pre release offers, and there is an £86 difference (up to £208.08) in what we paid for a 6 month 32 player and a 48 player server for the same period at current prices. If Gonzo can’t offer me the same rate we started at for an upgrade, this could potentially increase what we need from £13.55 each to £23.12 over 6 months – in other words, from £2.25 per month to £3.85 per month each (based on 9 donating equally).

Also as a final point, I’ve had some pm’s in response to this thread advising people are willing to contribute but they don’t yet know how much they can offer. I’m considering how best to manage this, as I’ll need to keep everyone updated regarding any shortfall, and while I could produce a list of donations like Pharty did in the past, I’m weighing up confidentiality vs transparency concerns before doing that. I suppose since the server’s already paid for over 6 months, we could wait until we need to renew, before calculating any surplus or shortfall.

Anyway, I’ll provide bank details once the account is active.

You’ll like Steam as well Sprog, and will get a chance to try it now your PC’s up to spec. I’ve not bought the hard copy of a game for 3 or 4 years.

Yea I noticed it was full as well, and may be looking for a game shortly since i’m not at work, however the crash thing appears to be an issue EA are aware of and will be patched in the near future. The following was from Rackage a couple of days ago:

R6 is being pushed out this morning.

    Changes

    – Fix for crashes usually occurring during level switches. Server providers may see a little bit of memory leakage instead in this situation

    – Game servers should no longer quit in some situations where the online backend servers are down. Server will reconnect to the backend once it’s up again

    – Fix for ghost servers which didn’t accept connections

    – Kick reasons should better match situations where they are issued. This will help battlelog provide more accurate information to the player

    – Connection fixes to avoid players sometimes being rejected while joining the game server on one of the last slots

    – Security updates

    – Improved server logging

This was later rolled back and I’ve not seen anything regarding it being reinstalled….although this following note today may explain the server crash this afternoon:

The join queue was enabled in R7 but has since been found to cause problems.

I am sending out a small update to remove it from all servers, your server will restart briefly.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

This note doesn’t have a timestamp, but it wasn’t there an hour ago when I first opened the control panel. That note suggests maybe that R6 has been reinstalled. I’ll go and check the rackage forums.
