ParticipantI use movie maker for my wee surf movies – its very easy to get your head round. Unfortunately it tends to a) be quite buggy/crash easily if you are using a lot of very big files in my experience (save your project often) b) doesent allow for high quality output – it forces you to use one of a variety of compression techniques none of which seem to enable high quality digital output (other people may have found a way round this I guess.)
I plan to get pinnacle myself at some point – but will pay for it… thus subsidising the R+D which you piratical types get to take advantage of 😀

i have come across this idea before but I have to say that I am not convinced. As a means of showing how daft the idea that humans and humans alone have some counterpart that is part of them but not part of them it works but as a direct metaphor for the christian concept of a soul it does not work very well at all and therefore limits the degree to which comparisons can be made.
I disagree – its a fine counterpart to our idea of what a soul might be like, and I think it is a very simple way to engage your average reader (i.e not well read theologically sophisticated types like yourself) in thinking about some very interesting issues.
I finished the trilogy a couple of weeks ago and have to say i enjoyed it immensely. There were some large plot holes that jarred for me – but if you suspend your disbelief theres still plenty to enjoy.
As for Wet – you are spot on about the tits – for a teenage lad that shower scene is a like mana from heaven 🙂

ParticipantMy first computer was an oric – fave game was a shoot em up space invaders styley called ultra. First multiplayer games were me and a mate hooking our Amigas together. First online game way homeworld (I was signed up to wireplay as well funnily enough.) BF42 was the main one for most of us here though i guess.

ParticipantStarship troopers was communist? In what way?
From the perspective of the film the society it depicts was fascist in nature, whether you want to read the subtext as being ‘fascism is bad’ or not is up to you – but you cant say that it was pro communist! I havent read the book – but i assume it was similar in outlook.
It was actually more sophisticated than that i think – the fascism it displayed was all very well run… ultimately saved the human race from the bug invasion and had very cool uniforms i.e. not a bad way to live on the face of things.
The fact that the society just didn’t seem right (helped along by those ridiculous government sponsered adverts) makes you think a bit about what is important in the way we run our lives and what is or isn’t acceptable in a moral society. I would come away from the film thinking ‘oh my god i hope we dont go down that route in years to come’ wheras a BNP nutter might come out thinking ‘yes! That is the future for mankind!’
Under-rated film.

I have Sky+, and so don’t have this problem. Watch what I want, when I want.
Hah! Thats what they want you to think! You are still being exposed to advertisers drivel… and no doubt spending more time watching the vacuous nonsense in between the sales pitches than is good for you.
Im not immune… I have just watched the whole of desperate houswives through a boxed set the GF got for her birthday. Even though I felt dirty and stupid watching it I could feel myself being sucked in.
If I had a TV in the house I would watch it more than is healthy – fact. its just too damn insidious in the way it pulls you in. Thats why I had to make the tough decision to get rid of the thing altogether. Turn back! Before its too late! Its poison I tells ya!
As for you Judge – 24″ monitor and media centre in the living room… job done.

If it was dirty looking women you wouldn’t need to feel shame, but they are without a doubt, girls. Very sexy ones, but still only girls. Tsk tsk tsk
Oi! Just noticed this you cheeky cow! 😈
Obviously Im talking about the
6th former types. Check em out on IMDB – I can assure you they are all in their 20’s! Now go and get your school uniform out the wardrobe Tess – Vic will appreciate it!

ParticipantJust finished this tonight. I loved it… theres various levels you can read it at… the basic kids adventure yarn being only the most superficial. pullman has to be comended for tackling some incredibly deep issues (the idea of having visible souls being pure genius in this respect) in a very accesible way.
The three books are in the buy 2 get one free sale in borders at the moment so get your arse out there and start reading.
Unfortunately I saw the film before the book… it doesn’t do it justice… big surprise!

ParticipantMy advixe…. use this opportunity to throw tv as a concept out the window. I aint had a tv for about 6 years now… best decision I ever made. still watch dvds etc …but don’t have the mind numbing soul sucking despair of handing my life over to the people in control.
your wife might not like your new philosophy though 😈

Twist the rear rotor and practice with the trim button.
I got some books and a subscription to surfers journal…. very nice American import surf mag.
Also a cool little game called ruk-shuk… involves balancing rocks… sounds crap… actually better than these things usually turn out to be.

hmm good film but was a bit disappointed with the sci-fi plot towards the end! it was a great story about 2 rivals till it started to get silly. Don’t get me wrong i love sci fi but was quite enjoying the gritty down to earthiness till i got distracted by the sci-fi stuff!
7/10
I felt exactly the same as you mate… but then I started to read about Tesla (solely as a result of the film… never gave the guy a 2nd thought before.)
Fucking hell what a life! Read a bit about him and his crazy inventions and you might start to understand how the author came up with this plot device.

ParticipantWow – good to know that Im not alone in my bewilderment at Brands unearned success! WTF is he doing on Radio 2?
Anyway – saw the trailer for trinians and thought it would be utter shite… but am ashamed to say I am tempted to watch it for all the dirty looking women squeezed into school uniforms. Sigh.

ParticipantLike I said get past the tricky second chapter and i think you will find it stimulating!
WTF is going on with you and housemates though? I take it you got rid of the broadband hogging tards? But now you have another prick in the house?
