Right.. I’ve had a good look-round and while the content on this fine debatal commune is immaculate.. I must be honest to the point of being rude and say.. why, oh why haven’t you guys put some ambition into the design of it?
I’ve dabbled a bit in phpbb forums, websites et al and I thought I’d put up a link to a styles demo that shows off a bunch of skins for this type of forum 😀
We dabbled with this idea a year or so ago, after we updated to this type of forum layout/type. However, in true XDC fashion we couldn’t decide which one we liked, so stuck with this one.

Seriously though we have some talented gfx types in here who could conjure up some top ideas given time, but with real life taking over all the time i guess the chaps are just too busy………i on the other hand am totally crap with all things relating to gfx and imagination……. 😛

yeah I liked comic books but not the orange and grey. they could have got a bit more creative with that. If I could edit php etc I really would have a go at tarting it up

damn your youtube link thing sucks magsanyway – getting back to panics post – there are three basic reasons we have stuck with the existing skin
1) I am lazy
2) with all the patches / mods that phpbb gets through applying them to more than 1 skin at a time is a pain in the arse and no one can agree on a skin so we end up with lots of by hand editing
3) phpbb 3 is just around the corner and i am holding my breath till thenAye I can understand that..
I’ve played around a little with the phpbb3 candidates and I must say it’s fabulous 😀
Especially the admin section looks veery nice compared to the phpbb2 one and the code behind the curtains is even better laid out than in the old one.
I’m wishing for someone to integrate it with PHPNuke before long tho.. It’s one of the best forums out there but fiddly to get working with portals (apart from phpnuke).
Perfect setup would have to be e107 w. phpbb but the existing integration scripts are shite >.<
