four-aces deluxeParticipant
Watchmen is coming out next year as a film too. Looking forward to 300 much more though.
four-aces deluxeParticipantWell some of you obviously don’t like comics or graphic novels which was a term coined to get over the fact that ignorant twats dismissed this kind of storytelling as just a bunch of kid’s pictures. I guess you’d dismiss the oral histories of American Indians as primitive nonsense too. You probably don’t rate modern art too highly either.
There was actually a distinct change in storyline between the old style comic strips aimed at kids and and ‘graphic novels’ that came about with The Dark Knight Returns but I won’t continue to bore you. Yeah graphic novel is a pompous use of language but it’s because of ignorant people that it came into use.If comics are too simple for you I highly, highly recommend Tom Holland’s “Persian Fire”. It’s a book with words and very few pictures. It reads as an exciting story but as Morgan said is based as much as can be known on real events: the first global clash of empires between the Greeks and the Persians. It’s written by a double-first historian from Cambridge and is extensively referenced so it should be suitably high-brow for the non comic readers. Since we trace our cultural history back to the Romans and Greeks it’s our history too and a bloody excellent read. I defy you to be unmoved by what Leonadis and his 300 did.
‘300’ the comic/g.novel has absolutely awesome artwork and I can’t wait to get a copy of it myself. The film could be good or bad but just take it for what it is: an action film. Read Persian Fire and learn something.
[rant over :)]
four-aces deluxeParticipantAll sizes yes but I’ve had isssues with DVD+ and DVD-. My laptop plays both but not all my friends’ do.
four-aces deluxeParticipantI’m with Insane on this one – looks like you’re completely overlooking the obvious and deserving of his mockery.
control panel – desktop themes (not sure if that’s what it’s called in English) – screensaver – power options – choose what suits you.
four-aces deluxeParticipanthello
You’re lucky; Insane hasn’t insulted you yet. (but it will come soon, no doubt).October 18, 2006 at 11:08 am in reply to: XDC Uni13: Do we want to bother allying with these people? #36006four-aces deluxeParticipantWell I could put my black leather Darth Vader outfit on and try to do a Freddie Mercury impression; how ghey do you want me to be? 😉

Perhaps our weaker members would see this differently though and would benefit from a few extra friends around.
four-aces deluxeParticipantIf it’s fights you want, this place has plenty. There’s a dubious explanation on the ‘about’ page that kind of tries to justfiy it but it’s basically people scrapping on film and it does lack the poetic justice of this post:

(Actually just spotted this vid on there too).
four-aces deluxeParticipantWell said! 🙂
four-aces deluxeParticipantIf I were in uni5 and if I had a fleet, I’d definately be up for hitting such a fuckwit. As I’m not and I don’t, goodluck with it all; he deserves a slap.
four-aces deluxeParticipantYou could try the Firefox plug-in that Chronic told me about: Scriptblocker.
Not really sure how trackers work (cookies?/scripts?) but this might work as it seems to block anything nasty/unnecessary leaving you a big red sign in the bottom right corner that gives you the option of temporarily or permanantly allowing any sites that you need.
It also has the added bonus – something you’ll be over the moon about Insane – of getting rid of the big google add in Ogayme 😉four-aces deluxeParticipantWell I spent 4 hours doing it C.C. most of which was looking for follow up pics to the camp Russian rouletter but I did teach 3 50 minute lessons in that time.
Then at the end of my lunch break [just after I thought ‘Fuck! What about my fleet… oh bollocks’!] I had to go and teach a bunch of gregarious 16 year old Japanese girls who are normally delightful but this time were a bit vexed by the obviously forced smile I was attempting and my 1000 yard stare.
I didn’t really feel up to explaining to them that I’d just lost a deathstar, possibly one of the most embarrassing things that can happen to an ogaymer. And I don’t think they’d understand if I told them that ‘I just became the Grand Moff Tarkin of XDC’ in Japanese.Don’t worry though, I haven’t spent the last 9 months earning 2 moons and graviton tech just to quit now. I will, as the the great girly-man mocker says, be back.
four-aces deluxeParticipantEveryone gets 3-2-1 from me as a matter of principle. Doc you should be day-trading not wasting your time on ogame 😉
Once you get a big enough fleet Magicker send a colony ship (yeah you’ll have to ditch a planet) to a few systems away from your real target. Colonise slot 1 and it will look like you are hunting someone in that system (don’t know why it’s just what the big boys seem to do) then send your fleet there very slowly. And hit your real target for very little cost… (just an idea – haven’t done it myself yet).
four-aces deluxeParticipantCheers everyone. I’m in Japan and I can get English operating system laptops but the shops assume that if you work in Japan you’re a high powered executive knob-jocky and can afford top-of the range laptops with a bunch of software you don’t need and the inability to install decent graphics cards and play games. I can afford it if I save a few months and that’s what I did last time but the problem is I’ve seen Chronic playing Battlefield and I want in. It looks awesome so I’m seriously considering building a desktop.
I can read a bit of Japanese and what I can’t read, the missus can but I don’t want to feel like I’m taking a language lesson every time I install something. I want to enjoy my leisure time.
If their’s no clash between any Japanese bought hardware and English XP it seems self-building is the way to go. I don’t want to wait for Vista because I’m a heavy user of all things bittorrent and I’ve heard dodgy stories about vista checking your licenses before allowing you to update so I’ll stick to XP for the moment.
I’ll definately be using Insane’s tool for my old laptop though 🙂four-aces deluxeParticipantCheers that’s a brilliant eye-opener and gives me a lot to research.
One more question. I’m based abroad but need an English operating system. If I was to install an English copy of XP would that get everything running ok or would I need to deal with any other issues? (I’d be buying all my hardware over here).
Thanks once again.
