LammieParticipantWelcome mate, brace yerself for the initiation….. 😈

Well we are back to the same issue as before. As ben eloquently put it at length on his post there are at least as many xdcers who hate normal mode as there are who hate hardcore. There are plenty of people who only play on hardcore settings and tthere a fair number of hardcore servers that are often full out there. If we have to have one mode on for the server i would prefer we voted on it and stuck to the result. Fair enough?

Can we just put our server to normal vanilla mode seeing as we get no one joining our server because they can’t see it in the server listing
100 times this
This ^^
I know some people prefer certain settings like 3D spotting off, TK, etc. However, A few have us have been on our server every night for the last week or so in an attempt to get the server populated. I can honestly count on one hand the amount of randoms that have joined in this time. I agree, I think we need to set the server back to Vanilla and give it week and see how we get on.
BF2 had the Commander, UAV’s and Artillery Strikes etc which all had the same effect in spotting the enemy, my view is that raises the ante and you have to kept modifying your tactics to counteract. It’s not as if one team has an advantage over another and it keeps the playing field level for everyone. My only gripe is people spamming the console which if I remember correctly can be limited in the server settings so players can only use it a certain amount of times over a defined period before it’s temporarily diabled ( 30 secs if remember correctly.)
I will go with the general consensus, however before we discount anything I think we should at least try it.
LammieParticipantActually checking the specs of you Mobo as ASUS P5QL
It has 4 x DIMM, Max. 16 GB, DDR2 1066/800/667 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel memory architectureSo it will support DDR2 1066Mhz memory.

however as the video would indicate, practice will help with this.
n00b 😀
LammieParticipantOk so you have a 64bit OS. How many phsyical ram slots are on you Mobo? and do you know which memory and bus speed it supports?
providing you either have;
A) Spare slots on you mobo
B) prepared to replace exist memory with paired modules (2x 4GB) etcMemory is cheap now, and a decent premium brand paired module (2 x 4GB DDR3 1800Mhz) will set you back around £40, but again it depends on what your actually going to use your PC for. If you intent to do a lot of video/graphics work the more memory the better and in this instance I would recommend 16Gb, but if it just for games and interweb usage 4- 8GB is plenty.
LammieParticipantWhat OS are you using? If you use more than 4gb (3gb technically) Windows will not see it. So unless you have 64bit version of the OS it’s a pointless upgrade.
4Gb should suffice for general gaming, if you plan on doing lots of rendering and video editing, the more memory the better.

Whoop whoop!
Do I need to do any Master/Slave bollox when installing it, or is this all automated these days? it’s been a while since I have played around with the innards of a PC!
I uave mine dangling from a.wire currentky inside my pc, literally. That may answer your question. It’s just plug and play basically these days, though I might disconnect other hard drives first so you’re forced to install windows on it.
^^ This disconnect exisiting drive, install new oe now need for master/slave malarky just stick it in and install OS. If you have removed all the stuff you need from old drive, format it once OS is installed on SSD.
LammieParticipantNice one Turks, awesome upgrade.
LammieParticipantyeah works for me, as long as the majority of us can play.
LammieParticipantYep, good games indeed. Still not made my mind up about Armour Kill though…. will be on again tonight to continue ploughing through the ranks 😀

Cheers for the heads up – I actually saved everything for a recent re install, so no big job.
Ive heard bad things about OCz SSD’s, can these be ignored? and I have a SATA II Mobo… will this limit my speed?
Cheers
There we some reported issues with the OCZ Agility 3 SSD’s but there has been a firmware update since, which seems to has sorted it for most people. I have the OCZ Vertex 4 and I can tell you I’ve had no issues and it’s exceedingly quick.
With regards to SATA II Board limiting your speed, you can get SATA II SSD’s and compared to a mechanical HDD, you will notice a huge performace increase. If you wanted to, you could still buy a SATA III SSD and futureproof yourself if you decide to get a newer mobo/cpu later on, but it will only run a quick as the SATA II Ports on your Mobo. Again, compared to a mechnical drive it will be much faster.
