It’s the fact you have to use software at all which gives you the minor difference 😛 Software doesn’t run by itself and has to take a fraction of your resources from elsewhere!! Though a big fuckoff switch doesn’t need shit….except for you to press it!!
sigh… the software isn’t doing anything other than ‘throwing the switch’ as it were. Once the board is in SLi mode the software isn’t actually doing anything, you can remove it or stop it running and the board will still be in SLi mode. How exactly is that using your resources?

only catch is Asus tend you use software sli whislt abit use hardware sli, just that tad much better but bang per buck @ £900 who gives a shit about a 1% difference hehe.
What you talking ’bout willis? The only software SLi that ASUS do is their software selected SLi, which allows you to change to SLi mode using a utility in windows rather than opening the box and changing the switch over. There’s absolutely no performance difference between this and the traditional hardware switch, since all the software is doing is splitting the PCI-express lane configuration which is usually done using the clunky SLi switch on the motherboard.
edit: Also, that spec looks good. If I had a spare £900 I’d have it.

ParticipantAlthough the new 8800 is a beast of a card, it’s worth considering that it’ll be a while before DX10 games are the norm….and by the time that happens the next generation of cards will be out and cards with the performance of the 8800 will be half the price. You have to weigh up whether you want to splash out a fortune on a card now, or get a cheaper (but still powerful) Nvidia 7900 or Ati X1900 which will play anything you want to for a good 6 – 12 months, then upgrade to a DX10 card when DX10 games are making an impact.
As for a processor at the moment AMD has nothing that can touch the conroe (core 2 duo). Even the low end conroes can beat an AMD FX with a bit of overclocking, and the midrange ones are beasts. The top end ‘extreme edition’ is just silly money for not much more performance.

ParticipantCheers all. I’m absolutely shitting myself, but happy at the same time. It’ll be an adventure 😀

ParticipantThe drones also handily mark out which member of a squad is the squad leader for any snipers who want to stop your squad respawning.

ParticipantThey’re not a ‘true’ quad core chip, they’re two core 2 Duos bunged together. Doesn’t make a great deal of difference I guess, but there are some performance implications.

That’s so not how a Parity drive works at all.

ParticipantSentry gun is cool for Titan attack / defence. It works better in close quarters than at long range, but it doesn’t really stand up to sustained fire. I use it to cover my back a lot of the time, just keep an ear out for it starting up and you know someone is trying to sneak up on you. Another tip is to put one of the shield thingies just behind the sentry gun to stop people shooting it from out of its arc of fire. I unlocked the heavy machine gun and I’m starting to regret it now. Although it is a decent gun for supressing fire and defensive positions you rarely end up in a situation where it would be useful in actual combat. I’d unlock the sentry gun and then go for the shotgun.
