Yeah, it’s buggy, an occasional lag monster, but one thing I really like is the depth and variety of the terrain. You can really use it well for cover and moving around. “Getting tactical”, I guess. It really adds to the moving around experience, making you think about good routes and attack paths.
(Waits for RO fans to jump in….. 🙂 )

October 26, 2006 at 6:04 pm #36967Beer_MonsterParticipantnaw, i concur, i wanted to hate it, i really did………but it’s definatly growing on me, despite the countless bugs and server crashes.
one point insane mentioned was it crashed on one particular map….i forget which one, but it might be an idea to move that map to the end of the map rotation because the server very rarely gets too the final 2 maps.
October 26, 2006 at 7:41 pm #36968LensmanParticipantOf course, I forgot to mention that all the goodness of getting tactical can be completely screwed by a bloody great big red diamond appearing over your head……

October 26, 2006 at 8:21 pm #36970XDCErratic-SpaceParticipantIt certainly seems more tactical to me. And the all that extra cover sure comes in handy when your poor little soldier dude’s getting mowed down by a battlewalker. The only thing I’ve not really taken into account yet playing this (when working out tactics) is to actually look at the map and work out which silo is going to shoot next, then attacking accordingly. I’m still very random at the mo.
One thing I really love about the game is the titan mood of play. Now I know some people are a bit iffy about it but for me it’s spot on. With the addition of titans it means that the firefights are always going to end with an intense fire fight between infantry. I’ve never minded driving about in a tank, flying a tank, whatever, but the most enjoyable aspect of these games for me has always been fighting on foot.
What else? Dog tags. Fantastic addition. You all know it 😉
That Commanders can finally get some points during the game
And SL being able to pick up leader points by setting targets.
October 26, 2006 at 8:27 pm #36971XDCMADMAXParticipantYeah must admit, I am begining to enjoy the titan mode now, its just initially working out how to best play that mode.
Game is really begining to grow on me and im starting to feel my way now, its just a huge learning curve with so much to choose, but some really nice touches, like the shields to give you cover when defending, dog tags, drones etc..
Yeah, as you said Space, need to work out what silos I should attackdefend first, as Im rather randon at the mo.
Ok, so it has a few annoyances, like the mouse scroll, when choosing a different item such as nades, is a little cumberson, the single shot doesnt always work and the constant CTD’s, but not a bad start I must say.
Top game, top enjoyment, and the infrantry battles are cool, just give me those transport drops again and sort the gay arty out please.

Has anyone actually been killed by the arty yet? When I hear it incoming I don’t even bother moving, it’s useless

Well up till this evening I don’t think I had been then I got killed twice by Turk in the same barrage…*boom* I’m dead. ‘Ahh crappit what’s the odds? Ahh but who’s this? Insane coming to his Squad Leaders aid with a thoughtful delib.’*phew* ‘Now where to next? Oh wait I’m dead again by the same friggin’ strike!’
I like the new arty much better. You’re more likely to take some damage but have time to get out of the fire which is great. I’d always want to be killed by a soldier over some stupid airstrike I think.

October 27, 2006 at 8:17 am #36975XDC wild egg tamerParticipantdogtags……..managed to knife someone yesterday and the dogtags appeared on the screen……do they automatically get collected and if so where do i find them ? I looked in the BFHQ section but couldn’t see them.
October 27, 2006 at 8:48 am #36976XDC wild egg tamerParticipantodd! just checked the leaderboard for dogtags and it tells me i haven’t collected any!
When you knife someone, the dogtag shows on screen, do i need to press a button to actually collect it ?
help me, i’m turning into a stat whore………. 😆
October 27, 2006 at 11:04 am #36977xdc_queekerParticipantKILL HIM!!!! 😈
October 27, 2006 at 11:14 am #36978XDCOldPhartParticipantMmm, methinks this game is rather overated. A wee bit too arcady. I want my Tiger tank back, and Schpittfeurs, and MessySchitts, and proper sniper rifles
And “You gonna die GI”
8)
October 27, 2006 at 11:19 am #36979RonathonParticipantThe stats are still a bit buggy by the look of it.
In the BFHQ section there’s a button on the right marked ‘Dog Tags’ click it and it should show you a list of all the ones you’ve collected.
I’m really enjoying it at the moment, but there are a few annoying things like the titan lag and the randomness when shooting rockets at armour.
Being blown up by my own motion mines was fun too 😀
