Took mine to a mates house. Worked out that the server browser doesn’t actually work unless you cancel it. Had a few games and left (although I’ll begrudgingly admit that “Panama Canal” seemed like a really good little mp map).

Spent a good half hour on the phone on Saturday answering some pretty bizarre questions including (but not limited to)

    • How can anyone be allowed to release an online game which doesn’t actually work 80% of the time?
    • Why on some games does one side have twice as many players as others? Wouldn’t it be fairer if there were the same amount of people on each team?
    • How come more experienced players get better guns/defibs/fancy scopes? Isn’t it stupid that new players are handicapped for being new?
    • Whether it was considered cheating if she played as a medic on account of the fact that there seemed to be some unwritten rule that everyone had to play as a sniper.

But, despite all this I am assured by her that if you actually manage to get online, get in a squad and find people who will actually “try to help you instead of sitting on a hill disguised as bush” it is possible for the game to be pretty good.

So there you go. Who’d have thunk it. At least my copy will get some use.

Nah, not wanting to sound overly negative on the 360. I currently think that if you’ve got a decent PC then you’d be better off with a PS3. If you haven’t the 360 is a better bet.

My mate has a decent PC, so I think he’d be better off with a PS3.

    Thanks for the advice anyway.

    Really disappointed.

Hoped I’d like this but it’s distinctly below average in my book.

I’ll do a U-turn on this though and recommend anyone getting it buys a console version, it must play better on a console and it can’t look any worse than the PC version – Jesus Christ that fat purple haired bird I tanked as a kid had more going for her aesthetically than this.

Having said that, I’ve not been impressed by a Dice game since BF42 so I’m probably the wrong person to judge it.

Cheers Turks. Sounds like the PS3 wins hands down.

Not having an Xbox you might think that I was asking a lot of stupid questions, but it’s worth mentioning that you can’t get onto the internet on the 360 at all (as far as I know anyway), only the Xbox Live service which you’ve got to pay through the nose for and it really isn’t worth going on it’s that poor.

Only reason I can make a case for the 360 at the mo is the back catalogue of games and the fact that it’s generally the development platform for a lot of games. But as far as I can see the PS3 has more more exclusives these days and my mate has a decent PC anyway so he’ll get a better version of a 360 game on that 9 times out of 10.

At least with a PS3 he’s got a choice of games that he won’t make it to PC.

Just read on Eurogamer that the console mp is capped at 24 players, whilst on PC it’s 32.

Not a big deal, but if you’re buying it to play online it’s potentially going to make a difference.

25 quid on Gameplay.co.uk so I pre-ordered it on PC, though with my attention span and the complete lack of birds with big norks in these types of games I’ll probably only play it online for a few weeks tops.

Cheers Magicker – sounded like a good idea but it didn’t work. Must be Creative being shite as Doc says.

It was the Creative Console or something I was trying to download but luckily I plugged the player in to my PC and Windows 7 decided it knew what it was and made it work.

Which was nice. Can’t do anything fancy but at least I can charge it up and move files onto it now.

Worth mentioning that I’ve been quite impressed with Windows 7 if anyone is thinking about getting it.

I keep meaning to get onto L4D Doc, but I’m on Mass Effect 2 and Call of Pripyat as well. Plus my mate has given me Bayonetta on Xbox to play through (not great – very overrated).

Agree with Stella. didn’t bother with the DLC stuff but I picked up Borderlands for 15 quid on the PC and gave it a playthrough. For a game which didn’t get much fanfare it was easily one of the best games of last year.

If you can get it on the cheap on PC then definitley give it a go.

If you see it on the consoles you’ll probably want to avoid it though. As I said before FPS on a console=like wanking with a headache.

No Alzir, it’s totally nonsensical. Everytime you pass/shoot on target yet get a plus and everytime you miss a pass/shot you get a minus. So you can run a game entirely, set up 5 goals from midfield and get 6.0 or you can touch the ball once in defence/attack all through the game and get 10.0.

This is a small gripe when compared to the fact that playing online corrupts all your single player games to the point that the game freezes constantly and you need to rest your xbox and start all over again.

I gave it up as a bad job about 3 months ago.

I told you before, you want to play in the kit of either KV Mechelen (Belgium) or Gallipoli (Italian Serie B).

    Both have got distinctive kits.

    Oh, only just seen this.

Sorry Tooth, but nobody has given me the bullet that my embittered, hatefull demeanour means that I so thoroughly deserve. Still, I’m off to the pub this weekend and who knows who I’ll manage to piss off. So you never know.

Sorry Doc, until I read this I’d actually totally forgotten about Left 4 Dead 2. Is anyone still playing it at all?

Like all these games these days, it’s a port of a 4? 5? year old console.

Assuming it’s a half decent conversion, any kind of dual core machine with a 60 quid graphics card should run it. Makes you wonder how good PC games could be if someone actually did games for them.

I’ve pre-ordered this on PC but the “special edition” I got for 24 quid has put me off a bit – loads of “special guns” for multiplayer to give you a head start. Bollocks to that, can’t effing abide this idea in an FPS multiplayer games where you get unlocks.

On the other hand, it does look decent so I’ll give it a chance. Just finished Borderlands though and I’d be surprised if this is half as good.

Not bad, but not as funny as watching some scrote, human vermin’s idea of a joke go a little bit awry.

**** WARNING. PLOT SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ANYONE WHO HASN’T SEEN THE TRAILER WHICH BASICALLY TELLS YOU WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS TOTALLY PREDICTABLE FILM ANYWAY. SUCH IS LIFE *****

You know what – sometimes you’ve got to have a sense of humour when you go to the pictures. You know, when some bloke makes a film about the evils of capitalist exploitation costing about 250 million quid, for instance. Taking the piss you see. Very good.

Whilst extolling the virtues of running around in a loin cloth and firing a bow and arrer might make you think you’re being cool and right on, given how we’re all about to drown half our kids in rising oceans and bake the others in deserts caused by massive temperature rises, it doesn’t really take into account the big problem with this film.

“There’s nothing we’ve got these people want” bemoans the hero half way through.

Bollocks mate, total and utter bollocks. They want tv’s, videos, computer games. Course they fucking do. Yeah, yeah you stupid little hippy – let’s all go live in trees and eat berries. Big stumbling block though. Living in trees is shit boring. Fact. It’s okay though, because wouldn’t it be great (as well as being totally and utterly fucking ludicrous) if you could plug your hair into a tree and talk to it!!!!!!. Well – no it wouldn’t. It would be shit.

“Hello tree, hows things going? Done anything exciting”
“Done anything exciting? You on the wind up? A bird landed on me earlier and a monkey shat on me. Done anything exciting – I’m a fucking tree you moron. Fuck off.”

So you’re telling me that some poor bastard sat wiping his arse on leaves all day and talking to trees would rather be doing that than watching “Ninja Terminator” or “Street Trash”. That’s demonstrably not the case. If it were true you see, we’d all still be living in trees and wiping our arses on leaves.

So we’re left with that old and seemingly flawless equation whereby the more spectacular the special effects are in a film the more shallow and completely ridiculous the story becomes.

So the fact that the special effects in this film are, by any measure, pretty bloody amazing (and the 3d effects are also very good) tells you all you need to know about the storyline itself.

If you’re getting this for PC regardless it’s 24.99 on pre-order from Gameplay

    http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=RM10001&title=battlefield:_bad_company_2_limited_edition

I only mention it because I’ve noticed that the prices of PC games are likely to go up a bit closer to release dates (MW2 was actually 24.99 for a while as well as I recall).

It’s 38 quid on Xbox though, so you’re probably better off waiting to see if the supermarkets knock it down for a weekend if you’re getting it on console.

You could probably get it a bit cheaper if you looked around, but Gameplay are pretty reliable for sending stuff out.

In all honesty, I’ve not decided I’m buying this anyway. Didn’t mind Bad Company (constantly stabbing yourself in the chest was a pretty cheap way of recovering health and grated a bit), but haven’t really liked a BF game since 1942.
