Bloody consoles, no good for anything other than football games, and I guess they have to dumb down games like this for the console market.

I could also possibly (assuming my burner works) get you a copy of Civ 4 to try Doc, we could fire up a game online as well (maybe also with Turks?) since the new version’s likely to be similar.

I’ve never tried Colonisation, but might do on Silver and SOIA’s recommendation here. I was about 10 when the first Civ was out, and it was great for it’s time (remember Cavalry killing battleships ), but it’s steadily improved over the years, with the culture element they added in Civ 3 and the improved combat being the best changes. I was too addicted to Civ 1 in it’s day though to even contemplate getting Colonisation, even if I could have persuaded my folks to fork out for it.

You need to be awol at least 9 months before you get a mention Steve ;), or at least that’s how long it took when I vanished a few years ago 😮

Its turn based, which can get boring when playing multiplayer…

Playing multiplayer there are a number of options which deal with this, the most common being simultaneous turns, which can be set with a time limit, or otherwise. Normally online games progress at a decent pace since anyone playing online is comfortable with the game.

I had it (Civ 4) on the PS3 (now stolen!) and it was pretty good but the AI was pants,

If you’re struggling for a challenge vs the computer, you’re either playing on Chieftain, or you’re a much better player than I’ve ever come across. Get yourself a copy for your PC, try Deity, then come back and say it’s not a challenge 😛

and it got really boring towards the end of the game when constantly moving troops around the map

Possibly you’re a lost cause, but normally you don’t have so much surplus that you’re moving units about with no purpose. The end game, when you’ve got modern units, is the best part of Civ 4.

It’s pretty hard from what I played a long time ago. Previous versions weren’t really optimised for online play, and used gamespy which had a lot of problems with people playing behind a router. This one is the first release in quite a number of years, so I’ve great hopes for multiplayer. It’s the sort of game you need a few hours to play though. That means it’s always difficult finding players willing to stick it out, especially when they start badly, but the AI’s always provided a good challenge (and it takes over when a player drops), and even coop online is pretty good.

Found this thread unread here recently, got around to watching film, and wasn’t disappointed I’m glad to say.

[spoiler:195oussh]Like what they were trying to do with the ending, but as was mentioned in other spoilers here, why did they make their mind up in 5 minutes and why didn't he at least bang the blonde. boooo[/spoiler:195oussh]

So much better than the Dragon Wars recommendation, that my faith in this forum is back/10

Yea, I got it in 2005 and it’s unchanged but for a new gfx card 2 years ago and 1 gb extra ram a few months ago. Over the last couple of years it’s started showing it’s age, obviously.

Still runs things pretty well though, just with some exceptions like Bad Company 2 (because it’s a crappy port) and Crysis (because it’s Crysis). Empire total war was the first regular game where I noticed performance as being slightly annoying, but then again it was an unfinished game, with all the bugs to show for it.

You know napoleon supports MP? Even on the campaign map?

Oh really 🙂 Have you tried it yet?

Also what’s the game like overall? And how well does it run, because Empire total war was really slow on my machine?

Going to start making it, or already quite far along the making process? Aren’t these the same guys who released a mod for one of the BF games shortly after the next offical BF game was released, therefore missing the boat?

In case anyone was wondering, the TS server went down last night for a few hours, and I don’t know why, but the main thing is it’s back up this morning.

We aren’t going to tell you what weapon balance tweaks we have done, we want your unbiased views on the changes before we detail what has changed.

I quite like that approach 🙂

hmm yea, though I always feel like the computer is cheating on skirmish mode. The initial build order is really all I was hoping someone could remind me of though.
